@Jim_theHammer @Alfa_Particle It's just two AL-31s. Not exactly inferior but it's technologically transparent to the level that basically everyone knows what those engines are capable of as flankers proliferated after the collapse of the USSR and some even fall into private hands.

That heated tiles idea actually sounds smart - not sure if anyone ever attempted to implement it. People who live in these courtyards mostly just leave the snow on the ground till it melts since the walkways around are shielded from that by the extended roof above. They just skip the hassle by not walking into the actual yard after snowing unless some kids wanna play in it.

@null_afk @ying_verse Ah okay, it’s definitely been thought of before. I wonder with the snow if you’d just shovel it to the ditches and let it melt naturally. I was thinking (despite the expensiveness) it’d be cool to have underground heated tiles in the courtyard to help keep it nice for bare feet.

There are drainage ditches running along the sides of the courtyard, which are covered by slabs/bricks with strips of cutouts in the middle to accomodate precipitations. The ditches ultimately lead to a larger one outside of the house along and on the sides of the street or hutong it's on. (At least it's the rather modern solution as far as I could recall, the really old ones probably have something more thought-after like small crevices in between the tiles allowing the water to seep through and go to a lower part of the yard at which the water was led out to somewhere else - just like the one in the forbidden palace)

@ying_verse Was just talking about this with my friends, having an “indoor” outdoor courtyard would be a dream house. I’m curious on the water and snow situation and how you’d deal with that though!
