Lately, something we keep coming back to while building Vlogit is how little of real life actually makes it online. Not just the highlights, but everything else. The days where you wake up already feeling a little off and you can’t really explain why. The moments where you’re stressed about something you haven’t told anyone yet. The times where you feel stuck, or overwhelmed, or just not like yourself. Those parts of life almost never get shared. And it’s not because people don’t want to share them. It’s because there isn’t really a place for them. Most platforms are built around posting when something looks good, or sounds good, or feels finished. So people wait. They wait until they’re in a better mood, or until something interesting happens, or until they can package what they’re feeling into something that makes sense. But life doesn’t really work like that. A lot of the moments that matter most are unfinished. They’re messy, or uncertain, or just quiet. And those are usually the moments where you don’t need an audience, you just need someone to see you and understand what’s going on. What we’ve realized is that when sharing only happens once everything looks put together, a huge part of real life just never gets shared at all. And over time, that creates this weird gap where everyone looks fine, even when they’re not, and everyone assumes everyone else is doing better than they are. We’ve been thinking a lot about that gap. Not just how people share their lives, but how they feel while they’re sharing them and who they’re sharing them with. Because sometimes what you need isn’t to post something. It’s just to let your people know where you’re at.

One thing we’ve been thinking about a lot while building Vlogit is this: People are already documenting their lives every single day. There are photos sitting in camera rolls that never get shared, videos people record and then never post, and little moments that get sent to one person and then disappear. It’s not that people don’t want to share what’s going on in their lives because they do. It’s just that they don’t really have a place to share it with the people who actually matter. So everything ends up in one of two places. It either stays private and never gets seen again, or it gets posted publicly for an audience that was never really the point in the first place. And over time, that starts to change how people think. Instead of sharing something because their friends would enjoy it, they start asking themselves if it’s “worth posting,” if it looks good enough, or if anyone will care. It slowly turns everyday moments into something that feels like it needs to be evaluated instead of just shared. But the reality is, most of the moments that actually matter in your life were never meant for a crowd. They were meant for your circle. That’s the gap we keep coming back to as we build Vlogit. We’re not trying to create another place to post content. We’re trying to create a space where sharing your day feels natural again and where it feels less like performing, and more like simply letting your friends be a part of your life. Because the moments that matter should be shared with the right people.

BeReal sold for $500,000,000. And 7 months ago, @karam_aboulhosn and I told ourselves that we could build something bigger than that. At the time, it honestly sounded kind of ridiculous. We didn’t have a product, we didn’t have traction, and there wasn’t any real proof that people would care about what we were building. It was just an idea and a strong passion to start documenting online. Not long after that, I made the decision to quit my job and go all in on @officialvlogit It wasn’t some perfectly thought-out move. It felt uncertain, uncomfortable, and if I’m being honest, a little scary. But I kept coming back to the same thought, I’d regret not giving this a real shot way more than I’d regret failing. Now we’re in San Francisco for the next month, just trying to immerse ourselves in it. We’ve been meeting people, talking to everyone we can, learning as much as we can, and pushing what we’re building as far as possible. Looking back, it’s kind of crazy how much can change in a short amount of time. In the last 6–7 months, this idea has turned into something real. We’ve reached over 50 million views, grown to more than 200,000 followers, built a waitlist of 55,000 people, and have an active beta with thousands of people applying to get in. There’s still a lot we don’t know, and we’re very early in all of this, but one thing I’m sure of is that going all in was the right decision. If you’re in SF, let's connect. Always down to meet other people building their own things.

When we started building Vlogit, we thought we were creating a new kind of social app… A better way for friend groups to share their lives. But over the last few months, something unexpected started happening. We asked our beta users a simple question: “What would you miss if Vlogit disappeared tomorrow?” The answers weren’t about features. They weren’t about UI. They weren’t even about video. They were about people. Heres what our beta users have said so far: ”Seeing what my friends get up to. And the fact that they find it just for our group to see so it’s so unfiltered.” “Seeing what my friends actually did that day.” “Getting a glimpse into their daily lives.” ”I would miss seeing what my friends did that day. Since I live in another state it’s been hard to see what he has been doing so I love how Vlogit is where you can share with each other what you are doing.” And one response stuck with us the most: “It feels like I’m part of their lives again.” That’s when it clicked. Friendships don’t disappear all at once. They fade slowly. Group chats become dry and filled with “liked by…” Plans always fall through to the point its a meme or viral video to say that “the plans made it out the gc” Messages become only memes and tiktoks/reels straying further and further away form personal connection. This is not because people stop caring. But because there’s no structure to stay connected. And what we’re seeing now is that when you bring back that structure, even something as simple as one person sharing their day, everything changes. People show up differently. They make more of their day. They tell better stories. They stay connected. A lot of our users even told us: “When it’s my turn to vlog, I actually feel motivated to do something with my day.” We didn’t set out to build a productivity tool. We set out to build connection. But it turns out… When people know their friends are watching, they start living more intentionally. That’s what Vlogit is really about. Not content. Not followers. Not algorithms. Just people. The best moments in life don’t happen in front of thousands. They happen in small groups, with people who actually know you. And those are the moments worth sharing.

The best moments in your life had 5–10 people in the room. Not 5,000 followers. Not an algorithm. Not strangers watching. Just your people. The sleepovers. The late night talks. The inside jokes. The random Tuesdays that somehow became core memories. Those moments were never public. And yet most social platforms today are designed for the crowd, not the circle. They optimized for reach. For aesthetics. For performance. Somewhere along the way, we stopped optimizing for staying close. Friendships don’t usually end. They drift. Not because anyone stops caring. But because nothing is structured to keep us showing up for each other daily. That’s the gap we’re building for with Vlogit. A private, daily ritual inside your friend group. Not a highlight reel. Not followers. Not virality. Just real life, shared with the people who actually matter. Because the people who made your life unforgettable shouldn’t slowly become strangers. And staying close shouldn’t require a major life update. It should just be part of your day.

Snapchat is optimized for streaks. Instagram is optimized for aesthetics. TikTok is optimized for dopamine. None are optimized for friend groups. That’s the gap. Private. Structured. Daily. Video-first. We’re not building another feed. We’re building a daily connection with your friends with @officialvlogit.

Over the past year, I’ve spent a lot of time on social media, both consuming it and by building @officialvlogit in public. And the more I’ve been around it, the more I’ve realized something: Most platforms reward performance. You post when something impressive happens. You refine what you share. You filter, edit, and polish until it feels “post-worthy.” And after a while, even normal life starts to feel like it’s not enough. That realization stuck with me. Not because I think social media is evil. Not because I haven’t benefited from it. But because it quietly shifts how we show up. You start sharing the highlight instead of the day. You start reacting instead of participating. You start watching more than creating. That’s a big reason why we started building Vlogit. We didn’t want to build another platform centered around performance. We wanted to build something centered around participation. Something that makes it easy to share what you actually did today not just what looks impressive. A random Tuesday. A football game with your brother. A late-night grind session. A quiet day that still mattered. Not for strangers. Not for validation. Just for your circle. Vlogit isn’t about being more interesting. It’s about being more genuine. And the more we build it, the more I realize authenticity isn’t about removing polish, it’s about removing pressure. That’s what we’re trying to do.

In case you haven't heard, theres a new pandemic going around Its called doomscrolling and its quietly changing the way we connect. Think about it. When’s the last time your friend group actually shared what they did today? Not memes. Not reactions. Not reposts. But real life. For us, we had to pause to think about it. And that pause is what scared us. Hobbies used to be how people expressed themselves and stayed creative. Friend groups used to actually know what was going on in each other’s lives. Now, that space gets filled by endless content made by other people. When that happens, we don’t just lose time, we lose the habit of creating and sharing our own lives. We don’t think doomscrolling makes us lazy. We think it makes us forget that we’re allowed to participate. That’s why we’ve been building Vlogit. We wanted to make it easy for friend groups to share what they actually did today, not to perform, not to go viral, but just to show up for each other again. And honestly, the responses over the past months have been wild. People don’t want more content. They want connection. So the next time you catch yourself scrolling without thinking, it might be worth asking what you’d rather be sharing instead. Because it’s not just time you’re giving away it’s your real life, sitting unwatched.

Six months ago we posted a 30 second video documenting Day 3 of building Vlogit. The only progress we had made? Verification codes finally worked. That video went on to get 6M+ views, and it made Vlogit take off. It validated something we deeply believe: Trust the process.

A few months ago, Vlogit was just a late-night idea between me and @omarontape As of Today? - Our beta is up and running. - 50,000+ people on the waitlist. - And over 200k total followers. Still feels surreal. But now the real work starts.
