Bear with me, years of fucked up nurture has taught me to be angry at the smallest of things. It's a daily battle to keep that shit at bay. CIS male (He/Him)

The only people that have issue with the term woke is the racist, oppressive bigots on the right. Because it challenges their misdemeanours. There is no Orthodoxy, that's just a gibberish rebuttal for anyone clutching at straws to legitimise being an awful human being.

Though not my normal practice, I deleted a recent post. I did this because the recipient politely asked me to. They said they felt unsafe with the attention it was bringing them, and because I care about them and sincerely don’t want anyone to feel unsafe, I accommodated their request. Below I’m going repost the majority of my deleted sentiment, as I still think it’s worth giving a read, especially if you believe that I’m somehow trying to redefine the term “woke”. Which I am not. I was asked what I thought the word meant. Right now. In 2024. Not what its original intent was. Not what Merriam Webster has it listed as. What my PERSONAL take on it is, based on how it has evolved over these last few years. It may have started as something as simple as being aware of social injustice and discrimination, but with it came hardline orthodoxy and the need to comply with certain socio-police ideologies. And if one didn’t toe that line, they were vilified and cancelled. It may have started as an attempt to awaken people, but it quickly became a bludgeon to force people to agree with all of its implied tenants at the risk of being ostracized from society. And that’s all shame and guilt based behavior. We should be able to present new ideas, and have those ideas challenged, all while maintaining humility and grace throughout the process. I’m not interested in arguing with anyone. I’m interested in a respectful exchange of ideas. A discussion that may well have multiple points of view. I have never, ever professed to be 100% correct about anything. Because NO ONE is. We’re all just doing the best we can with the tools and information available to us at the time. 🙏

Fascist ideology is obsessed with aesthetics over substance. It was true with the Nazis, and it's true with the modern alt right.

Please please please don’t let them import this “debate” from the US. That’s how it starts. If you work in television, please don’t produce these debates. Don’t be complacent there are people who want to do the same thing here is happening in America.

We have an abortion problem in the UK. 1 in 3 women (!!) will have an abortion in their lifetime. Yet NO little girl grows up wanting to have an abortion. So what’s going wrong?

I hear all your takes on why Kamala lost thank you, but are we allowed to have the take that Trump supporters are simply the worst?

MSPs try to put arguments forward in a compelling way, but the words of Ella, age 10, seem more fitting. "I thought grown up’s were trying to stop as many cars being used on the road? Then why take away our buses? “I want the grown up’s in charge to put our safety first"

In the past 8 years America has voted for man who can barely string a sentence together followed by a man who can barely string a sentence together and back to the other man who can barely string a sentence together. Put that way, the electorate are being pretty consistent.

The Royals make millions in profit each year, but this has always been shrouded in secrecy, until now. A joint @C4Dispatches and @thetimes investigation reveals that the King and Prince William are receiving public money through leasing property to public services like the NHS.
