I’ll tell you for free bro, we Nigerians are being enslaved by our leaders. I’m 27 years old and I’m a graduate with good grades, but right now I don’t have any job. All I do is follow people to the farm and help carry logs and wood planks to get paid. Sometimes I don’t even get paid if forest guards seize the wood. We only get paid 100 Naira (about $0.07) for one 2x6 plank. If you manage to carry 100 planks in a day, you’ll earn 10,000 Naira (about $7), but that is very hard to achieve because of the long distance and the number of people doing the same work. Sometimes we are 4 to 6 guys sharing just 300 planks from the bush to the road, where a bus will carry them to the sawmill. That’s why many Nigerians are trying their best to leave the country, even passing through the desert to places like Libya and other nearby countries. We are really struggling as Nigerians. I know some people who have taken their own lives because of the suffering in this country. Honestly, surviving in Nigeria alone is a big win for some of us 💔
