Much love to Rihanna, but if we're gonna talk smack, let's point out that a lot of her big hits were collaborations with other major artists. She has 2 with Drake, 2 with Eminem, and 1 each with Jay-Z, TI, and Calvin Harris. That's half her Number 1s (and about 2/3rds of her weeks at Number 1). Taylor has 13 of 15 hits solo. And "easier" is subjective. Sure, being able to debut a big streaming and sales week does create a specific pathway that didn't exist before. But back in Rihanna's time, the radio decided what was Number 1, and between her big collabs, and music that spanned multiple radio formats (pop, rhythmic, urban), it made it very radio friendly. Taylor on the other hand started her career in country, where it was almost impossible to get a Number 1, because the radio impact wasn't big. So even though she had the best selling albums, she never had a Number 1 single until Red started her pop transition. I like Rihanna's music. A lot of them are hits. But if we want to play this game to try to add all these qualifiers to Taylor, we have to acknowledge they exist for her as well.
