@christianjbdev Yeah October 7th is famously under discussed alright. First time I heard of it was in your post. Seriously. But if you’re going to comment on it you should probably take out some books from the library and read up about it. Ilan Pappe is a good place to start.

I see so many comments from Irish people talking about the destruction caused by Israel. But no mention of the fact that Israel suffered a 9-11 scale attack on Oct 7 2023, that if anything was worse in terms of savagery.

Interesting how wars are named after the country attacked: Vietnam War, Iraq War, Afghanistan War, Iran War... That's because if they were named after the attacker, it would be too confusing, since 80% of conflicts would be called the US war.

@LailaAlarian @HBendaas Condemning settlers has long been the safe liberal zionist criticism. It’s one of the few genuine political splits within Israel as opposed to destroying Gaza, Lebanon and Iran which are universally popular and thus broadly supported by democrat elites stateside

@RachelMoiselle You do support terrorism. You support the US and Israeli war on Iran. We’re in the early days of that but, at a minimum, the needless and unjustified murder of a school of Iranian children is a textbook definition of the use of violent action to achieve a political aim. Own it.

I don’t agree with the excavation into Mamdani’s wife social media accounts, but is that the truth? I set up this account as a teenager. I can’t remember everything I have written from 2012 until now, but I am 100% sure no post of mine contains any racial/homophobic slurs or expressions of support for terrorism.
Ross Barkan@RossBarkan

The banal truth is if you oppp dumped on any teenager's social media activity, you'd find something dubious. That's why the cancel culture mentality is so hideous. God knows what a Washington Free Beacon and ex-Post reporter was up to on his personal time back then.

Do people understand how insane this is? The Israelis are invading a sovereign country, making hundreds of thousands of people homeless, destroying their homes and neighborhoods, and saying they cannot return until Israelis feel safe. What about Lebanese safety and the right to live on their land without a psychotic aggressor turning everything into an apocalyptic moonscape?
Will Christou@will_christou

Israeli defence minister Israel Katz says today that the residents of southern Lebanon "will not return to their homes south of the Litani until the safety of the residents of the north [Israel] is guaranteed," as he announces ground operations in south Lebanon.

Two nuclear powers have launched an unprovoked war against an independent state, publicly stating their goal to "decimate," "eradicate," "obliterate" and "destroy" it beyond any possibility of recovery. Right from the start, they've carried out heinous atrocities—such as bombing schools, hospitals, cultural heritage monuments and hitting fuel storage sites in assaults that caused acid rain—while simultaneously trying to spark civil war by supplying weapons to separatist groups and deploying monarchist-Mossad agents hidden in the capital to topple the government. Now, this guy is bothered that Iran defending itself against an existential threat is somehow hurting the global economy.
Rishi Sunak@RishiSunak

Iran is attempting to put a dagger to the throat of the world economy. We in Britain must remember what the Romans taught us: if you want peace, prepare for war. My column in @thetimes 👇 thetimes.com/business/econo…

Looks like Tony Blair is very determined to confirm his status as one of the worst persons alive. His speech is pure 19th century colonialism: he frames the Gaza issue as one of "ineffective governance" on the part of the Palestinians, without as much as mentioning the 17-year blockade, the occupation, or the small matter of the deadliest assault on a civilian population this century. I'd love to understand how you build "effective institutions" when: - Your airport was destroyed by Israel in 2001 - Your seaport is blockaded - Building materials are banned as "dual use" - Your university gets bombed every few years - Your civil servants can't travel for training - Your economy is strangled by design - Your people and government officials are routinely killed in devastating attacks And he uses this, the eminently predictable outcome of this continuous strangling of a people, as evidence that they can't govern themselves and that they require outside management by the architects of their immiseration. Absolutely repugnant, no other word for it.

Does Mr Trump have a right to help himself to Greenland? Of course he does not. Yes, he is right to say that Denmark’s only claim to Greenland is that some of its ships disembarked centuries ago there and took that land. But, how exactly did the Europeans take North America, Australia, New Zealand? Legally? It is never advisable for the pot to call the kettle black. And now onto a delicious twist to the Greenland story: Europeans claim that it is unprecedented and a violation of NATO's charter for the leader of a member-state of a defensive alliance to be threatening another NATO member-state. That NATO is about solidarity, about defending its members’ territory. Not so! Since 1952, when Greece and Turkey entered NATO in tandem, successive Greek governments have been desperately struggling to get NATO to commit to coming to Greece’s defence if Turkey invades. NATO has STEADFASTLY refused to make such a commitment. Why? The official answer has been that NATO is committed to defending member states from belligerent non-member states – but not from each other, not from other member states, like Turkey or, now, the... United States! Want to know why Greece is perhaps the only member-state that consistently spent a lot more on weaponry than the bare minimum? That’s why! Because NATO has unwaveringly refused to defend its borders in case of a skirmish or war with Turkey. So, Denmark welcome to the club – and remember your governments also argued that it is not NATO’s job to defend any member-state from another NATO member-state. #block-696e536c8f08426017dd0167" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">theguardian.com/world/live/202…
