lrt I treat my fandom OCs with the same exact reverence as canon characters- they are canon to me. but it's also a way to engage with a world I love and see an interpretation of it I really crave first and foremost

sometimes i think about how people do treat making ocs and sonas like a popularity contest where they want everyone to acknowledge their creation as part of canon instead of making new characters as a way to engage in the world in their own personal way

i think people with fandom ocs should assert their dominance by treating their oc like a fully canon character. use the actual media # when posting art of them & if people ask "who tf is that" become extremely cryptic OR go "duh it's [name]" like they're supposed to know
