Most exchanges are designed to fail from day one. Exchanges don’t control their own liquidity. Instead, they outsource pricing to third-party market makers—firms with no loyalty to the exchange and every incentive to do what’s best for them: when volatility hits, they pull liquidity, widen spreads, and let traders eat the cost. Traders get liquidated by bullshit scam wicks, they leave, and the exchange slowly dies. The only way to win is to be your own market maker. FTX had Alameda. Hyperliquid has Chameleon / HLP. Binance had Merit Peak and Sigma Chain—firms secretly controlled by CZ, who got sued by the SEC for trading against Binance users. This raises ethical concerns. If the exchange needs to trade against their users, how do traders know they’re getting fair execution? The exchange sets the prices, decides when liquidity is available, and who gets liquidated. If they want to tighten spreads to attract volume, they can. If they want to widen them to extract more from traders, they can. Great thread on the early equity perps landscape. What's happening now mirrors the moment BitMex launched the first perp in 2016, but this time in an industry that is 1000x larger than crypto. Equity perps will be the most traded derivative in the world by 2030.

Vest markets getting rekt

The overnight LP drawdown was caused by an internal risk configuration error. When we list new markets, we manually add certain risk params. For one of the markets ($LYFT), the risk params were mistakenly set far higher than intended. As a result, the risk engine overreacted and applied extreme slippage and funding, which drove abnormal price movements and allowed two traders to profit irregularly. All parties, including LPs, have been fully made whole. Moving forward, we’re standardizing and automating param checks, and enforcing risk caps that limit how much any single market can move LP pnl before auto-circuit breaking.

One (huge) innovation of this cycle - 24/7 perpetual equities onchain I'm yet to find a person who is not bullish on this narrative, someone who does not see this playing a crucial role in the future of markets We have @HyperliquidX, the pioneers of this sector, with their HIP-3 pairs. I'm a fan and a big believer in them. However, 1) the pairs on there are still limited; and 2) the fees are still too high and stack up quickly if you are actively trading on there. Instead of trading equities exclusively on Hyperliquid, I have recently started trading on @VestExchange. The purpose of this write-up is to show you Vest's pros and cons, and to share my personal opinion. For the sake of simplicity, we will focus on equity markets in this post: 1. Trading pairs You have pretty much every stock you would want to trade, and you have access to 5x-50x leverage (50x for $NDX, $SPX; most big stocks like $GOOGL, $META, $NVDA, etc. are 25x). You also have access to forex and crypto pairs. 2. Trading fees There are no fees during Regular, Pre-Market, or After Hours (Monday - Friday between 4:30 AM EST and 8:00 PM EST) 0.05% fee during Overnight Hours (Monday - Friday between 8:00 PM EST and 4:30 AM EST) 1.00% fee during Weekend Hours (Saturday - Sunday, all hours EST) You can imagine that most volume happens when there are no fees, but you have the opportunity to trade at all times. 3. Points Program Since earlier this year, there has been an ongoing points program on Vest. Every Wednesday, 1M points are distributed to traders/LP providers. The end of the points program is not yet announced. It does not hurt to try and farm some points in case the platform grows, and the team decides to TGE (IF there is a TGE, it is not close). Currently, according to the team, there are around 3000 concurrent traders, and about 1500 more waiting for access to funded accounts. This means there is practically no competition. There are three tiers - $5K, $10K, and $25K accounts. Personally, I have never traded a funded account and have always traded my own capital. However, I think it is nice to have this as an alternative option. It is probably the best way for a crypto-native to dip their toes into equity trading with minimal drawdown 5. Personal Approach I've been wanting to learn more about the equity markets for a while. And to be honest, when money is involved (e.g. trading), your learning curve increases significantly - that has been the case with me. I mostly do discretionary trading on Vest, but I also often hedge positions on there that I have initially opened on Hyperliquid. That way, I farm volume and funding (but I can imagine farming funding with a big stack to be tricky because Vest markets are still not big enough). I'm yet to add liquidity to their vault, but this is something that I plan on doing as soon as... now actually. You are rewarded points and "potential" 30% APY (it is not risk-free, however). 6. Pros and cons Main pros: - A vast amount of trading pairs, more than any other platform I know of; - No fees during my trading sessions; - Points program (early); - No KYC required; - Great UI/UX experience Main cons: - Onchain deposits only possible on Base; - Still quite small in comparison to competitors; - No public community channels (like Discord/TG) to share ideas and feedback. Only private ones 7. Closing thoughts I enjoy trading on Vest, it truly is seamless. I believe we are very early to the points farming because it has been overlooked by most. Vest is not the only platform I use for trading equities, but it is the one where 90% of my trading volume goes to. I'm sharing all this because I like the team and I want to support them. These are all my own, genuine thoughts. Try Vest, and try it now. I delayed it for months, and I honestly regret not being onboarded earlier
