@SanderTordoir couldn't find the study with the chart - do you have a link? I am skeptical about claims that so much of the overall German malaise is caused by high energy costs, so would be interesting to see how the study arrives there

The analysis by Jamie Rush and the colleagues at Bloomberg Economics is telling. They find that Germany’s large post-pandemic GDP losses stem equally from higher energy costs and weaker global demand for German exports—especially from China. Germany needs to wake up. 2/

Good blog. European politicians have focused on Trump, but the bloc is actually fighting a two-front trade war. Unlike Trump’s tariffs, which will shave off some EU GDP, China’s distortions are already macroeconomically significant—contributing to Germany’s 5% GDP loss. 1/

note2: most of the investments will of course be private, and the main levers are improving horizontal conditions (CMU, energy prices, etc.). But: for some of the investments to happen in the EU, they need subsidies, given market failures & foreign subsidies. (17/n)
