Wait DAMNIT I did not want another debate I swear. But as far as I know this is 100% backward. Store and Developer cuts - Valve store takes 30% commission. - Epic takes 0% for the first $1,000,000 you earn PER year. Then STILL only 12%. Objectively epic is consciously supporting small developers more by taking nothing till $1m. And after still less than HALF of valve. Protecting gaming - This one just confuses me. Because it’s EPIC who took Microsoft and Apple to court to challenge the cut they take from ALL developers on their store. Despite the insane cost. Could’ve been dumb. But intent was for broad industry benefit. - ontop of that Valve actively uses its market power to FORCE developers not to discount their games on other stores like Epic, even when the Lower cut would let them. General Ethics. I mean, not much to say here because it’s just… not even close. Valve pioneered and continues TO THIS DAY to have the single most gambling esque addictive ingame loot box system to ever exist. Along with quite happily not really trying to stop the real money gambling sites it enables, because that boosts their profit more and keeps skin prices high. Other support: The amount epic supports game development with free asset packs, epic mega grants and infinitely more is just insane. Valve doesn’t do a thing (relatively speaking). Gaben uses his excess money to buy $500m megayachts. @TimSweeneyEpic buys forests to protect. One is clearly more “greed” focused in terms of wanting money for their personal lifestyle. I’m not saying Epic does everything perfectly. But valve has this weird halo effect where everyone just defaults to them being good? But the facts are literally the opposite. They made a steam deck? Cool? Companies make products? Epic made Fortnite. Which of the two companies makes its money more predatorily. The one that has casino loot boxes for kids and highest industry store cuts? Or the one that doesn’t do loot boxes, takes 0 from small developers. And supports them with mega grants and dev support. When they make money, which company reinvests it in ADDING to the game industry, development, grants, ect. Which one of them buys megayachts. It’s just factually wrong that epic is the bad guy,

Valve is pro gamers. And thats the most important thing that matters in the end. You make a product for the consumer, the audience, the gamers, not devs. Valve takes that money, uses it to protect gaming as a whole from crumbling, valve uses that money to protect gaming against Microsoft who already has been beyond harmful to gaming Valve made linux be a proper gaming competitor so microsoft cant get out of line and do something stupid to ruin pc gaming Valve uses that money to create the consoles like steamdeck, the new console they releasing, things that actually are amazing devices and gamers love Valve uses that money to genuinely do beyond too many player friendly choices Do not expect gamers to ever be against valve, no matter what u say, they have proven they deserve our trust, epic has proven the opposite. You can love developers, and still realize they are making a product for you, so what's best for you matters more than anything else. And valve has done nothing but bring gamers whats best for them

Valve: 350 employees Epic Games: 4,000 employees Valve: $17B annual revenue
Epic Games: $5-6B Valve charges devs 30% of their revenue for simply listing their game. Epic Games charges devs 0% revenue share on the first $1,000,000 Valve is one of the greediest companies in gaming. You cannot be pro valve and be pro developer at the same time.
