There's four types of 'it's critically-acclaimed' books; A) Unbelievably dull. So dull it is an act of prestige masochism. Nothing happens. Zero prose. Lots of 'the oven was on'. People have it on their coffee tables to look intellectual. No one has read it. No one needs to. B) Super, super popular with one demographic. Everyone else is very bewildered. Cult classic. C) Absolutely beloved by Sandra and Jean from Harrogate. They'll share it at book club. Cosy, sweet, lots of food descriptions. Richard and Judy 'actually cried'. D) Steve McTruck's Boy Book. Thriller with lots of tits and murder. Male celebs pretend to like it, so women buy it for their husband's Christmas and birthdays. They read half a chapter.
