I'm probably never going to not be mad about the way embellishment is prioritized over extremely time consuming invisible work and knowledge that go into things like fit, structure, and working with difficult techniques and materials in a lot of crafting circles
@theomancyCos So we talked about this a while back... Glad to say it didn't turn out too bad! Some issues with tension but I didn't have time for flossing, I'll try and rectify that. Also slight distorsion of the embroidery on the bias of the vest, but I'll kno to anticipate it next time.
So happy to finally be able to share a side by side of my Esmeralda cosplay, designed by @NoFlutter
I tried so hard to be accurate, while putting in my own touch with fabric and technique choices, and this photo by Benoit Rugraff really made all that work worthwhile <3
#laposte@laposte

@LaurenTupling It's definitely something that has been bothering me for years. I'm turning more and more towards upcycling and natural fibers - but that also goes with increased income. I think there's a lot of work to do in deconstructing the crazy rythm and expectations of constantly new -
Cosplay consumerism, a thread
1/ We keep talking about fast fashion being terrible humanely an environmentally, but why are we not applying that to cosplay?
I'm not blaming people for wanting to have fun, but as I see more and more people turning to buying cheap costumes -
Also wanted to add I'm not judging anyone who buys their costume, I'm just wondering if we can start incorporating this thought in our practices and develop more sustainable cosplaying - me included
constructing costumes in a long term approach seems
to be heading into a wall.
Any thoughts, wether expanding on this idea or having an opposing view? Would like to have a discussion on this topic.
