@pointsofreview @donutbus86 @LeadingReport You make several pretty large assumptions, i.e. domestic producers import a large portion of supplies and that the majority of us domestic auto producers don’t already base a majority share of production here in the US (looking at companies like Ford, this is a false assumption)

@RennSpd @donutbus86 @LeadingReport Domestic producers import supplies – we can debate the degree of this, but by definition, cost would increase with any degree. More importantly, auto producers are downstream from material imports that would be more expensive for a long period with relatively inelastic supply.

@RennSpd @donutbus86 @LeadingReport They currently rely on a global supply chain. Supply is not completely elastic, so they will continue to import certain materials at a higher rate. If manufacturers can produce everything, the cost of labour is higher than exporting countries, so there is still increased cost.
