KS2 Teacher 👨‍🏫

Anyone else worked every day of the half term? I worked Monday-Weds so far and have minimum 2 more days of work to do. This involves curriculum planning, preparing resources, assessment, organising events and subject leadership. Non-teachers have no idea.

That tiny blue line is childhood. The rest is adulthood. Every laugh, every smile, every playground game, every “look what I made!” moment matters. They’re only children once and only for a very short time. Let them enjoy their childhood.

You know your job isn’t going well when you hate Fridays as much as Mondays. Workload so astronomically high that I left after 7pm last night and will have a mountain to do over the weekend. This is unsustainable. I’m drowning.

The teacher chose the shyest student in the class to draw a piece of paper, and if it was blank, the whole class would get a free lesson to play. But all the papers were blank, and she did this to help him socialize and alleviate his shyness.

Between lesson planning, resourcing, marking books, setting homework, inputting data, communicating with parents, subject leadership, setting up online accounts and running a classroom, it’s simply not possible to be good at all that and work 5 days a week.

It isn’t possible to be a good full time teacher in a state primary school without working 6 days a week. I usually work 7:30-6:30, 5 days a week, then 12-7 on Sundays. 62 hours a week. I am a good teacher, but I wouldn’t be if I kept the weekends to myself.

You, at 30%, are probably going to do a better job than a cover teacher who arrives 5mins before the children.

The Catch 22 as a Primary Teacher who should be taking a sick day is knowing that by the time you’ve handed over all the lessons, your break duty and the mountain of other random admin, you may as well go in yourself.

Factor sandwich station in Y6 🥪 This is a great way for children to find and discuss: factors, factor pairs and prime numbers. We took the conversation on further in the lesson by looking at common factors with given numbers. Give it a try 😊

Teachers can spend every second of the day being productive and still feel like they are not doing enough. We need more realistic expectations or more prep time. Preferably both.

Temu is so hit and miss. My first order I was shocked how much I got for £17. Got a load more for the classroom. This time I can’t believe how this adds up to £22.
