I present to you the latest reinvention in the career of the serial fabulist and attention seeker Dr Lawrence Newport, whose work is supported by the sinister Effective Altruism cult. After pretending to ban XL bully dogs (they’re still here, biting children), offer expert advice on nuclear reactor safety (he still doesn’t know how they work) and pretend to lead the campaign for a rape gangs enquiry (he jumped on after everyone else, taking credit): Meet Dr Lawrence, the political philosopher king. A sort of utilitarian Anthony Seldon, but with more expert SpAds (he has a list of his is EA mates) and digital dashboards. When Starmer resigns, I fully expect Dr Lawrence to take credit for writing* the Unherd weekend essay that broke the camel’s back.

@JRFBoy The average person is very bad at judging demographic statistics.

This video it’s so revelatory. The sheer certainty of the US slop right that Britain is a caliphate in waiting always baffled me, then I see a video of a Fox pundit & Daily Wire columnist, not a complete nobody, guessing we have a 55% Muslim population.

@mehdirhasan Didn't you have to leave Britain because you went on a wild rant comparing non-Muslims to animals?

the joke on the reds is that in real life, blue-pressers who are willing to expensively signal compassion and loyalty end up living in high trust communities while vice-signaling red-pressers die alone and mad screaming "but if everyone just"
Tim Urban@waitbutwhy

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?

X is great. Once you get past the Americans saying our country is conquered and that we are all genetically defective or whatever, you are then treated to these weepy fuckwits and their delusions.

@tomhfh For all its faults, the USA is a continuation of our civilisation and will own the future. Our ancestors are the founding stock and provided the philosophical underpinnings; that’s where we should be aligned.

Anglo Gaullism is short sighted. Reject the French way. Don’t push off the Yanks. The strange unreliable unpredictability of Trumpism ends in November, as DJT becomes a lame duck, Congress goes Blue, and attention in DC turns to succession. Predicating decades of British foreign policy on the next seven months is not wise.

@NewSamawal Israel should not alienate its ascendant right-wing partners in Europe (including Reform which is set for major victory at the upcoming council elections) on behalf of decadent low IQ MAGA or goober Milei.

Israel owes it to Argentina to recognize its claim over the Falklands. The worst Starmer can do is recognize a Palestinian state between the Nile and the Euphrates.

@bryancsk Reform is still in the lead here. Drumpf's shenanigans are overshadowed by domestic problems.

I'm 20% convinced that this Falklands debacle is part of the US government's strategy of getting their ideological allies in other countries -- such as Canada, Hungary, Poland and the Netherlands -- electorally defeated (I don't know why they would want this though).
Jack Elsom@JackElsom

NEW: Keir Starmer hits back at Donald Trump’s threat to Britain’s sovereignty of the Falkland Islands. PM's spox: "We could not be clearer about the UK's position on the Falkland Islands. It's long standing. It's unchanged. "Sovereignty rests with the UK, and the Islands’ right to self determination is paramount. That's been our consistent position and will remain the case.”

@JacobL1994_ Britain's ability to defend the Falklands today is greater than in the 1980s. And its morale would be much higher in doing so -- Thatcher's cabinet tried to pressure her into ceding the islands.

@Eulipotyphla_OG What they call LKY-ism or Gaullism or whatever are just second order consequences of their being too cowardly to stand up to the establishment, thereby taking the path of least resistance towards authoritarianism.
