John Thomas "Jocky" Wilson (March 22, 1950 – March 24, 2012) was a Scottish professional darts player who became one of the sport's most iconic and beloved figures during its 1980s boom. Born in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Wilson faced a challenging early life, including time in an orphanage after family difficulties. He worked various jobs—delivery driver, factory worker, and periods of unemployment—before discovering darts as an escape and passion.
Wilson turned professional in 1979 and rapidly ascended the ranks in the British Darts Organisation (BDO) era. His unorthodox throwing style, rugged appearance, and fierce competitiveness contrasted with more polished rivals like Eric Bristow and John Lowe, earning him the catchphrase "Jocky on the Oche" from commentator Sid Waddell. He quickly became a crowd favorite for his raw talent and everyman persona.
His greatest achievements came in the World Professional Darts Championship. In 1982, seeded eighth, he captured his first title at Jollees in Stoke-on-Trent, defeating John Lowe 5–3 in the final—becoming Scotland's first world champion and helping elevate darts from pub game to televised spectacle. Seven years later, in 1989, he won again, overcoming Bristow 6–4 in a dramatic final where Bristow staged a comeback from 5–0 down, showcasing Wilson's resilience.
Beyond world titles, Wilson secured a record four British Professional Championships (1981–1988 span), reached at least the quarter-finals of the Worlds every year from 1979 to 1991, was runner-up in the World Masters twice (1982, 1990), and made multiple semi-final and quarter-final appearances in majors. He represented Scotland proudly in team events.
Wilson's legacy endures as a pioneer who helped popularize darts globally through charisma and skill during its golden age. Health issues, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease from heavy smoking and lifestyle factors, led to his retirement in the mid-1990s. He withdrew from public life, living quietly until his death at 62. Revered for his underdog rise and contributions to darts' growth, Jocky Wilson remains a symbol of grit, entertainment, and sporting triumph over adversity.

VIP FRIDAY ALL WEATHER FINALS DAY
Happy with the 4 bets I’ve sent out today and will leave at that…
Had a spare half hour so just done a write up with thoughts on the rest of the card (have a few members going here today) will try and do same for Newcastle shorty 👍🐎
LINGFIELD
1.30 - LADY MANZOR 6/1 is likely targeted for this race. Won it last year and only 3lbs higher coming into this race after a few recent duff efforts. This is clearly the target with a big prize pot on offer. LADY DORA MAE is the form horse - bids for a hatrick but only narrowly got up LTO. DANDY KHAN at 33/1 may be a popular pick after winning 5 times over the winer but his new marks requires more and he’s been struggling in his last few races.
2.05 - APPIER is 4lbs better off today in the weights with ST FAZ (11lbs if not counting the claimer) and considering how close there last race was - I think APPIER is the better option today considering he’s double the price. Balding has a strong hand across both cards and mounts a number of favs. SHRIMP SHADY heads the market for this one and his recent win at Wolves over 1m 6 gives a strong implication he will have no bother as he attempts the extended trip for the first time.
2.40 - Few horses we have followed this season in this one JUSTCALLMEPETE 14/1, THE THAMES BOATMAN 16/1 and group legend INTERVENTION at 18/1. Last few runs from INTERVENTION have been baffling - he’s come last at Class 4 twice yet ran his heat out when second in class 2 at Kempton only weeks before. Is he being layed out for this one? He’s won here multiple times and clearly capable of outrunning these odds on a going day.
3.15 - HITCHED 22/1 runs here but he’s drawn in stall 14 which might make life difficult. Most wins have come with Luke Morris on board - Rob Hornby rides today. He’s a hard horse to win on due to his style of arriving at the death - needs them all to go off rapid so he can pick up the pieces late. A risky bet with all considered. WILD BILL looks good value for a bet at 8/1. He’s won 5 times already this season - this would require a career best but he keeps doing the business and runs well here at Lingfield - two wins and a 3rd place LTO in a class 2 race. Very strong piece of form for him heading into this when close in behind BEYLERBYEI who is fav today at Newcastle.
3.50 - BORGI is in top form heading into this at 9/1 and good be a decent EW shout but TALIS EVOLVERE is the popular shout and not surprising either watching his last race back when a razor close second. Issue is his poor record at the track. Form is undeniable. DINGLE runs again - he won this last year but he’s going to need a mammoth effort to follow up from a higher mark.
4.25 - HENRYTHENATE been backed in from 40/1 to 20/1 but his form suggests he wants 5 furlongs not 6. He’s a strong late finisher but has shown very little in his recent races - flopped at 6f here at Lingfield - went back to 5f at Wovles and was last again. ALSARAE looks the most consistent of this bunch of late, form has worked out well and has the benefit of a 5lb claimer this afternoon that should boost chances.
5.00 - WONDER has form on side and a positive stall draw - short priced but the likely winner here. DAMASCUS STELL hasn’t ran a bad race this year and beat WONDER at the start of it. Offers decent EW value at 12/1. TOMMYS PROMISE is being backed - he’s best priced 18/1 now - has a brill track record - picked up a quick hatrick here over the Christmas / New year period. Seems to have struggled from new mark but new trip could bring out improvement again today IMO.

Patrick Vieira: Midfield Colossus and Enduring Icon
Born on 23 June 1976 in Dakar, Senegal, Patrick Paul Vieira moved to Dreux, France, at age eight. He began his senior career at Cannes in 1993, captaining the side by 19, before a fleeting spell at AC Milan. In August 1996, Arsenal signed the 20-year-old for £3.5 million. Under Arsène Wenger, he developed into a dominant box-to-box midfielder, blending power, vision and tireless energy. Appointed club captain in 2002, Vieira anchored Arsenal’s most successful era, contributing 29 goals in 279 Premier League appearances. He helped secure three league titles—including the 2003-04 Invincibles campaign—and four FA Cups. His fiercely competitive style earned six consecutive PFA Team of the Year selections but also drew criticism for disciplinary lapses, including multiple red cards and a 1999 spitting incident that brought a six-match ban and fine.
Internationally, the 107-cap Frenchman debuted in 1997 and starred for France. He featured in the 1998 World Cup triumph, lifting the trophy after coming off the bench in the final, then won Euro 2000 and the 2001 Confederations Cup. He captained the side to the 2006 World Cup final.
Vieira left Arsenal for Juventus in 2005, winning Serie A (later stripped due to Calciopoli). At Inter Milan from 2006, he claimed four consecutive Serie A titles before joining Manchester City in 2010 and retiring in 2011 after helping win the FA Cup.
In management, Vieira coached New York City FC (2016-18), Nice (2018-20), Crystal Palace (2021-23), Strasbourg (2023-24) and Genoa until November 2025.
Vieira’s legacy is that of a transformative leader. Named in the FIFA 100, Premier League Hall of Fame (2022) and English Football Hall of Fame (2014), he symbolised midfield excellence through physical dominance, tactical intelligence and captaincy. Though occasionally criticised for aggression, his resilience and success across England, Italy and France cement him as one of the finest midfielders of his generation.

CROKES CROSS emulates BLOWERS as the joint highest-priced winner in British racing history! 🇬🇧 🤯
I'm sure someone's backed it as usual?

@racingdaily_com @PolleyMatt This is actually really sneaky the way they do this “huge Mullins treble the bookies are running scared from”
Then click to site and it’s affiliate sign ups to make money from losses.
No accountability whatsoever for results or record kept at all by the likes of racing post etc

@racingdaily_com @PolleyMatt People can argue the toss about blogger being an affiliate but pretty much every major website and publication is mullered with affialite links.
Very rare to find tipsters that don’t actually work with the bookies.
Maybe that’s what should be looked at in more detail?

Do figures like Racing Blogger, Scott Shearsmith, Moosh Tips, & Pro Sports Advice have a part to play in the sport’s future by helping engage new & younger audiences?
Or is their rise more a reflection of racing itself failing to attract & retain a younger more social media focused fan base?

Kauto Star (2000–2015), a French-bred gelding by Village Star out of Kauto Relka, is widely regarded as one of the greatest steeplechasers in history. He began his career in France under trainer Serge Foucher, winning several hurdles races and earning the nickname "L'Extraterrestre" for his exceptional talent. In 2004, owner Clive Smith purchased him for Britain, where he joined Paul Nicholls' stable and formed a legendary partnership with jockey Ruby Walsh.
From 41 starts between 2004 and 2012, Kauto Star secured 23 victories, including an unmatched **16 Grade 1 wins**. His standout achievements include two **Cheltenham Gold Cup** triumphs (2007 and 2009), making him the only horse to regain the title after losing it (to stablemate Denman in 2008). His 2009 victory over Denman by 13 lengths remains one of the race's most dominant displays.
Kauto Star's record in the **King George VI Chase** at Kempton is unparalleled: five wins (2006–2009, 2011), with his 2009 success by 36 lengths earning a peak Racing Post Rating of 192—the highest ever for a National Hunt horse. He also won four Betfair Chases and two Tingle Creek Chases, uniquely becoming the only horse top-rated over 2 miles, 2½ miles, and 3+ miles in the same season.
In 2006/07, he completed the Stayers' Chase Triple Crown (Betfair, King George, Gold Cup), securing a £1 million bonus. Timeform rated him 191, placing him joint-fourth all-time among steeplechasers (tied with Mill House), behind Arkle (212), Flyingbolt (210), and Sprinter Sacre (192).
Retiring in 2012 with total earnings of £3,775,883 (including bonuses), Kauto Star's legacy as the modern benchmark endures. His resilience, brilliant jumping, and longevity elevated National Hunt racing's profile. Tragically euthanized in 2015 following a paddock fall, he remains an enduring icon of brilliance and courage.
