HOW TO WIN AT CHINNASWAMY when defending
Since 2023, IPL has returned to a home and away format. This gives an interesting insight on how to win at Chinnaswamy especially when defending totals (bowling in the second innings).
There were 7 night games in the past 2 seasons where teams scored < 200 in the first innings. The team batting first won only 2 out of the 7 games!
The lowest totals defended in a night game is just 182. The second lowest total defended is 188.
This means that teams that score less than 180 have barely any chance of winning a night game!
The lowest total was defended by LSG in 2024 Season. The second lowest total defended was RCB vs DC in 2024 Season.
We can see some interesting trends when we look at the score cards.
In the game vs LSG, the chasing team RCB lost 3 wickets in the powerplay!
The score at the end of powerplay: 48-3 (6.0)
In the RCB vs DC game, DC lost 4 wickets in the powerplay!
The score at the end of powerplay: 54-4 (6.0)
The key to winning at Chinnaswamy is:
🏀 Opt to bowl first after winning the toss
🏀 If you fail to win the toss, score at least 190 or more
🏀If you fail to score 190 or more, then take 3 or more wickets in the Powerplay to give yourself a chance!
