The reason that Britain is hiding the bodycam footage of what police did to Henry Nowak can only mean one thing. They know it's bad. Real bad.

If Hampshire Police continues to cover up the Henry Nowak bodycam footage, as Home Secretary in a Reform government I would release it immediately. However bad they think it is. As a former police officer, former Police Federation representative, and former lay magistrate (Justice of the Peace), I am profoundly disturbed by the circumstances surrounding the death of Henry Nowak. An 18-year-old male, suffering from multiple visible puncture wounds to the abdomen, reportedly informed attending officers that he had been stabbed and was struggling to breathe. Despite this, he remained restrained until he collapsed. He later died from his injuries. The suggestion that he “would have died anyway”, or that officers were merely “misled”, raises extremely serious concerns regarding operational judgement, prioritisation, and the discharge of the police’s most fundamental duty: the preservation of life. Where a detainee presents with obvious and potentially catastrophic injuries, officers are under a clear duty to respond with urgency, caution, and immediate medical intervention. If the reported facts are accurate, there appear to have been grave failures in that duty. Having once worn the uniform myself, I find the allegations deeply troubling. Public confidence in policing depends upon accountability, professionalism, and the proper exercise of duty under pressure. Those standards appear, at the very least, to warrant rigorous independent scrutiny in this case. In my view, the conduct of the attending officers should be subject to full investigation for potential gross negligence manslaughter, alongside consideration of gross misconduct proceedings where appropriate. The Independent Office for Police Conduct must carry out a thorough, fearless, and fully transparent investigation. Given the seriousness of the allegations and the level of public concern, there is also a compelling case for a wider public inquiry into whether any systemic or institutional failings contributed to this tragedy. Henry Nowak should not have died in handcuffs while reportedly pleading for help. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones.

A dying 18-year-old, bleeding from multiple puncture wounds to his abdomen, told your officers he had been stabbed and could not breathe. They kept him handcuffed until he collapsed and died. To respond with “he would have died anyway” and claim your officers were merely “misled” shows no remorse and no accountability whatsoever. I am ashamed to have ever worn the same uniform as the officers attending that night. They are a disgrace to everything the badge should stand for. Police have one fundamental duty above all others: preserve life. Your officers catastrophically failed Henry Nowak by prioritising a now-proven false allegation over a young man bleeding out in front of them. That is not a mistake. That is a betrayal. On what planet does a claim of hurty words outweigh visible stab wounds? This reeks of dangerous incompetence and twisted priorities. These officers must be investigated for constructive manslaughter. The IOPC must conduct a full, fearless investigation. A public inquiry must follow to expose any institutional failings or cover-up within Hampshire Constabulary. Henry didn’t deserve to die alone and handcuffed. Shame on your officers.
