@treblewoe this is true, but the baseband is physically isolated hardware, it can only interface with the main OS in ways the main OS permits. no direct memory access shenanigans. this means GrapheneOS is immune to any funny business. you can inspect its I/O yourself if you're curious.

Every smartphone has two entirely separate computers and OSes. The one you know about runs Android or iOS. The one you don't is called the baseband. It runs alongside the phone completely independently. Its job is to talk to the cellular networks and comply with laws.

@twinkhoncreole they aren't even "highly educated", despite stereotypes of rich privileged gay men. it's survivorship bias, the poor ones don't tend to come out or live very long. being gay inverts the patriarchy's view of men, which is why they face hate crime rates second only to trans women
