Boglands are strongholds of resistance. They often appear in film and literature to introduce complex emotion and test or build character. To love a bog is to love strength that is wild, rugged, and laughs at conformity. Please spread awareness- these special places need our help

PEAT IN PARLIAMENT 📣 Next week, a bill that seeks to ban peat sales will be introduced to parliament. Despite @GovUK’s 2022 consultation showing overwhelming support for a ban, their promise to ban peat sales "by 2024" has not been met. wildlifetrusts.org/ban-sale-peat (1/2)

Three great ways to connect to peatlands.... especially No. 2!
Connecting Communities with Peatlands@CCWPeatlands

#WorldWetlandsDay lets us turn the world's attention to our vital wetlands. Wetlands contribute to our health and well-being by providing clean water, preventing flooding, and being present in wetlands can help out mental health Here's how you can celebrate this year...👇

3/3 Sphagnum hummocks on a restored Scottish upland wetland do more than store carbon - they can slow storm water and reduce flood risk downstream. This also can help water quality so peatland restoration is a good option for land managers! (Links in comments)

2/3 Dutch water meadows along the River Rhine are already full with winter rain. Here the risk of flooding always looms. Healthy wetlands retain water so re-wetting peatlands gives resilience for climate change impacts. (Links in comments)

1/3 Bog Moss is a Superhero! It can absorb up to 20 times its own weight in water. Quoting a UK study: “A tiny moorland plant, sphagnum or “bog moss” can dramatically reduce the likelihood and severity of flooding downstream for communities at risk.” (Credits in comments)
