Soraya ثریا
Soraya ثریا@soraya2st·
Soraya ثریا comes from the Arabic word for the Pleiades star cluster. The name was later borrowed into Persian and became widely used in Iran, so it’s both a Persian name in common usage and a name of Arabic linguistic origin. Hope this helps <3
Burla@Burla_Az

@soraya2st @NarrehKhar No only you have superiority complex 😂 you are uneducated too. Since when Sorayya is a Persian name. it comes from the Arabic word الثُّرَيَّا, which originally named the Pleiades star cluster in Arabic astronomy and language. Persians later borrowed it and uses it as a name.

@mythomatician The first recorded mention of him is by Yang Xuanzhi decades before Tanlin and he says he was Iranian. Plus, blue eyes are much more common among Iranian people like Sogdians & Bactrians than Dravida Brahmins. Either way, why would you even want to be associated with a Buddhist?

Bodhidharma was a Dravida Brahmin, and was only initially labeled a “po-ssu” (“Persian”, often referring to Sogdians) bcuz he had blue eyes. The historians Tanlin and Daoxuan traced his origins to the Pallavas, which is corroborated by other non-Zen contemporary accounts.
History of Khorâsân and the Persianate World@BiruniKhorasan

A Japanese portrait of Bodhidharma, "the blue-eyed barbarian" of Bactrian origin (some sources claim he was Sogdian or Persian). Bodhidharma introduced Chan Buddhism to China. He is also popularly regarded as the founder of Shaolin Kung Fu. Woodblock print by Yoshitoshi, 1887.

@dalaygiz @aestaestaest_ Yes, I'm aware but my point is that even if *deiwos is derived from *dyew-, the Zoroastrian inversion applies to the *deiwos and daeva, not to *dyew-, and there is no evidence of a sky to hell semantic shift in Avestan.

Dyeus went from meaning sky -> Heaven -> Hell in Avestan everyone knows what happened with bʰagás, daywás, or Hásuras, but i didn't know even dyā́wš/Dyeus went through this inversion process wtf were those Zoroastrian reforms abt bro 😭😭

@dalaygiz @aestaestaest_ We get daeva/diva from the PIE root *deiwos, not *dyew- dyaoš is a reconstructed sky-term with no evidence of a semantic shift in Avestan. My point was that it belongs to the same neutral celestial semantic field as nabasca. The claim that dyaoš became hell conflates the 2 roots.

@resint00th @aestaestaest_ Actually @resint00th, I had to check again but Y 44.4 doesn’t actually use this term. There is however a proper reference to a term from the root *dyew- in the Old Avesta; OAv. diuua- (diva-) as per Y 31.20. Humbach translates the latter also as ‘splendour’.

@mazdayasnoDR @KhusrauParviz @HammerandVajra Proof you don't know what you're talking about is you using Yazatas and Ahuras interchangeably. There are 3 Ahuras, that's Ahura Mazda, Mithra and Apam Napat. All Ahuras are Yazatas but not all Yazatas are Ahuras. Stop distorting Mazda Yasna through Abrahamism, it's Ahrimanic. 🔥

And we do indeed ask the Amesha Spentas and Yazatas (the Ahuras) to aid us and help us because that is their job assigned to them by Ohrmazd, to aid, help and protect, we honor them, venerate them and “worship” them if you want to interpret the word “Yazamaide” as “worship” even though it has multiple meanings based on context it can mean “we venerate,” “we worship,” or “we offer homage to.” doesn’t make us polytheists, we recognize what Ohrmazd has made worthy of reverence.

Only through gymnastics and self fulfilling retro prophecies does a Christian ignore the New Testament, quote the Torah, and not realize their Jesus constitutes as an "other" god. Up for polite discussion. But dont reiterate basics of trinitarian, the "word" being Jesus, Logos, or any Neo Platonism...none of that applies to the Old Testament originally. The Christ role is a post Zoroastrianism inspired Messiah concept adapted by the Hebrews, mixed with Son of God motifs from Greece (Dionysus, Heracles, Hermes, etc) and later merged with Mithraic and Hermetic ideals. @iran0pessimist @earthtoroseyta Calling the Yazatas "archangels" is an Abrahamic distortion and not a Zoroastrian category. Yazata means "worthy of worship" and they are directly invoked, and get ritual devotion. The Yazatas are subordinate to Ahura Mazda, and lower hierarchy Gods, but they are not archangels.

@WorkAccountJust @HartageHolyMona @CristianoR93953 There's no 3 wise men, that's a later Christian tradition, there's only mention of 3 gifts from the Magi in the gospel of Matthew. The Saoshyant comes from Zarathushtra's seed. Stop trying to impose Abrahamic theology onto Zoroastrianism. Jesus is not the Saoshyant.

@HartageHolyMona @CristianoR93953 The three wise men were Zoroastria priests (Magi). The Zoroastrians believed in the Messiah (Saoshyant). Come on, even the Bible talks about Cyrus following the one and only true God of the Bible (Ezra 1 + Isiah 45). Anything that came afterwards such as Islam, cannot claim this.

Zoroastrianism is a religion that I have huge love and respect for, it's god forbade human sacrifice and saw men and women as equal. It also was Zoroastrian priests that prophesied the coming of the messiah Jesus Christ.
A.@afsixo

Zoroastrianism, traditionally founded by the Persian prophet Zoroaster, is one of the world’s oldest monotheistic religions. Its ideas shaped later Abrahamic religions: concepts like a cosmic struggle between good and evil, angels and demons, final judgment and heaven and hell.

"Portrait of the Persian Ambassador to France, Asker Khan" (c. 1810) by Jean Pierre Franque (1774–1860). An early 19th-century French portrait depicting Askar Khan Afshar, one of the Qajar-era diplomats sent to Europe during a period when Iran was actively engaging with Napoleonic France and other European powers. Of course Persian diplomats, were often attracting attention because of their clothing, court etiquette, and political importance. The combination of Qajar Persian appearance and French academic portrait style creates a very interesting cultural mixture.
