Rico Hoey is using a long putter this week in Napa. May not seem like a big deal, but let me explain why it is. Hoey may be the TOUR’s best ballstriker not named Scottie Scheffler. This is where he ranks in various ballstriking stats: Total Driving: 1st Greens in Reg: 1st SG: Off-the-Tee: 2nd SG: Approach: 16th He ranks behind only Scottie and Collin in SG: Tee-to-Green. But…he’s dead last in SG: Putting. He’s lost more than 1 stroke per round on the greens. And he’s nearly 0.25 strokes per round worse than the second-worst putter on TOUR. Truly an “imagine if this guy could putt average” situation.
