“In the entire chain of correspondence obtained by The Times, not a single justice, conservative or liberal, mentioned the dangers of a warming planet as one of the possible harms the court should consider.”

Secret memos by Supreme Court justices, obtained by The New York Times, show how they decided to bypass time-tested procedures and create the modern “shadow docket,” a controversial new way of doing business. nyti.ms/4csrD0l

My ads across every platform since turning 30 have been: treatment for balding, mushroom coffee, treatment for balding, fertility-promoting underwear with a pouch for your balls, treatment for balding, nostalgic indie music festival feat. the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, treatment for baldi—

This unfathomably depraved, psychopathic, ecocidal concept of looking at trees in a watershed and seeing competition for hay farming, to be rooted out and killed for the ranching industry, is the inevitable consequence of normalizing industry funding of science and universities.
Just Phil Lyman@phil_lyman

They want you to believe farmers are draining the Great Salt Lake. Facts: Utah's trees and natural vegetation use the lion's share. Agriculture is efficient and vital. The real crisis comes from bad policy-locking up land, ignoring infrastructure, and punishing rural users. Time for common sense: more storage, better management, less politics.

@molochofficial people get stupid about Walden, but he mentions in it and his journals that he was pretty active in helping runaway slaves escape to Canada! a lot more than most people are doing today

we make fun of Thoreau and his poll tax protest as if we're all doing more than him when the reality is that none of us are even doing that much, myself included.

It's interesting that production volume—"600 stories," etc.— is seen to be the value hill to climb in journalism right now. I know of few people who feel they're running out of news to read.

In an email shared with me, WSJ EIC Emma Tucker praised Fortune's use of AI in its journalism, saying "anyone who doesn't get what you are doing at Fortune, or thinks it is 'wrong', should get out of journalism fast!"

This is what’s really going to hurt the social media world of ripping off legitimate news sources and passing them off as your own. Lots of people use the AP’s reporting and photos without actually subscribing to the wire service. The AP starts to go, it all starts to go.

This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.
