@p4rtyp0iz It’s majority from outsiders who just spread any clickbaity content. In recent years I’ve noticed people suddenly latching onto this incident to fear monger leopard seals 😓 I really never saw it discussed online outside of legit articles until 2-3 years ago

It’s so very upsetting to me to see people spread around an AI generated video of a leopard seal attacking someone based on a real death. These idiots believe it despite it not lining up with events and being so clearly fake. It’s disrespectful & misinformation. Shame on you

@sealhazard Fr so many of those posts will mislabel species too 💔 & oh my goddd the dog comparison irritates me so bad 😭😭 they’re far closer to a bear than any canine .. and honestly calling them innocent sea puppies sm is dangerous, a pinniped bite can cause real damage

@robot_pup @Doggo12302276 RIGHT? Like what Happened 😭 people just post seals for clout and never actually pay attention to them, I literally got into an argument on tiktok because someone made a post saying “why haven’t we domesticated seals? They’re cute and fluffy and they’re like dogs!!🥺”

@nenepenne There unfortunately isn’t much we can do from overseas as the problem stems from the lack of animal welfare laws within Japan. The best you can do is inform others, I always recommend to avoid animal tourism there

I’ve seen some newer seal fans learning that Toba Aquaruim & a lot of other Japanese aquariums house their seals in barren cramped enclosures.. & I’m just gonna say that multiple cetacean accounts here have warned about this. Toba also has had dolphins & porpoise in tiny tanks
