After his dad died, Femi started talking to the dying monstera plant in the corner of his sitting room. At first it was just nonsense to fill the silence. Then it became real.He told the plant about the time his dad taught him to change a tire in the rain. About the argument they never fixed. About how scared he was to become a father himself one day. One evening his wife walked in and caught him whispering, “I wish you’d met her, Papa. She laughs like you did, like the whole world owes her joy.”The plant didn’t answer, of course. But something in Femi’s chest loosened. Grief doesn’t leave, but sometimes it just needs a witness. Even if that witness has leaves and zero advice.
