John Wooden's definition of SUCCESS is second to none.
He said...
"Success is peace of mind attained only through self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to do the best of which you're capable."
In his Ted Talk below, Wooden shares so much wisdom.
Here is a summary of his insights...
1. PERSONAL IMPROVEMENT: Success should not be solely defined by winning but rather by doing your best and striving for personal improvement. Success is not about being better than others but about doing your best and finding peace of mind through self-satisfaction.
2. TEACHING: Wooden was a master teacher. He once said, "They ask me why I teach, and I reply, 'Where could I find such splendid company?'"
3. EDUCATION: John Wooden prioritized education over basketball for his players: "I always tried to make the youngsters feel that they're there to get an education, number one; basketball was second."
4. DEFINITION OF SUCCESS: John Wooden's definition of success is based on the cornerstones of industriousness and enthusiasm and the apex of faith and patience.
5. EFFORT: Effort matters more than the score: "If you make an effort to do the best you can regularly, the results will be about what they should be."
6. THE JOURNEY: According to John Wooden, the journey is more important than the destination. Therefore, it is critical to trust the process.
7. SATISFACTION: John Wooden's satisfaction comes from seeing his players reach their full potential, even if they were not initially seen as talented.

Mike Tomlin said, "It's not what you're capable of. It's what you're willing to do. I know plenty of people who are capable, but few who are willing."
You can't just talk about it, you have to be about it.
It means discipline, commitment, and sacrifice.
To be great in anything, you have to will yourself there.
You have to be persistent, resilient, and perseverant.
It means dedicating yourself to personal excellence.
The Disciplines You Need for Personal Excellence 👇
Commitment: Full commitment involves sacrifice and dedicating yourself to expertise and mastery. It means you are unwavering in your focus and what you want to achieve. It shows prioritization and reminds you what matters to you.
Sacrifice: When you sacrifice, you acknowledging that success comes at a cost. Making sacrifices means prioritizing long-term benefits over short-term pleasures. It prepares you for the inevitable trade-offs required for success, ensuring you value and make the most of your achievements.
Willingness to Act: You can say whatever you want, but it comes down to what you are willing to do.
• Are you going to get up early?
• Are you going to work hard?
• Are you going to give your best?
When you're willing to act, you transform potential into reality. It's about turning plans into achievements, and creating results.
Discipline: Discipline means holding yourself accountable and making the tough choices. it is something that you choose for yourself. Discipline helps you establish strong habits and maintain focus on your goals. It allows you to manage time and resources effectively, leading to greater productivity and success.
Perseverance: Perseverance is about maintaining your effort and commitment, even in the face of difficulty or slow progress. It is important for overcoming challenges and achieving long-term goals because excellence requires more than talent, it requires grit. Albert Einstein said, "It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with problems longer."
Resilience: Resilience enables you to bounce back from failures and adapt to change. Be willing to walk into each day and face challenges head-on. Resilience is important when you think about achieving long-term goals. It helps you maintain focus, it improves your attitude, and allows you to manage stress.
Self-Motivation: All successful people have the internal drive and motivation to get better, commit, and grow because they want to. They don't rely on external encouragement and validation to be their sole motivation. They know that the effort must be the reward, and they live with a growth-mindset.

The best advice on how to be successful I’ve heard:
On Nick Saban’s radio show, a young athlete asked him a bold question.
What advice would the Alabama football coach give him – a basketball player – to improve in his sport?
Saban’s response is gold:
“I think for any athlete, it's the same thing. What's your goal? What's your aspiration? What do you want to accomplish? That's the first thing.
“Second thing is to define what it takes to do it. What does it entail for you to be the kind of basketball player that you want to be?
“Then you got to make the decision. Are you willing to do that? Are you willing to go work every day and do the things you need to do and take 500 shots a day like Kobe Bryant did so that you can be the kind of player that you want to be?
“And then do you have enough discipline to make yourself do it every day? Whether you feel like it or not.
“You got to choose to get up. You got to choose to study. You got to choose to go make the shots. You got to choose to work out. People that can do that, they can reach their full potential.
“If you choose to make that kind of commitment to it, you can do the same thing, but it's not going to just come to you. It's not going to come easy.
“And you're going to have to overcome a lot of adversity to be able to persevere and sustain it to get where you want to go.”
–
It’s a beautiful response for sports, business and life.
Replace the young basketball player with yourself – investor, business owner, manager, teacher, whatever – and the same framework applies.
Some key takeaways:
1. Everything begins with a vision. What do you want to achieve?
2. Vision alone isn’t enough. You need a detailed plan of how to achieve it.
3. Commitment separates those who dream from those who do. Most people aren’t willing to do what it takes.
4. Daily execution is the hardest (and most valuable) part.
5. Feelings are irrelevant. You can do what needs to be done despite how you feel.
6. One day of effort is overrated. Daily effort is underrated.
7. Improvement is a lifelong process. Embrace it, cherish it, commit to it.

A great message.
You cannot skip the struggle.
You cannot skip adversity.
It is part of the process.
Trust the process.
The Winning Difference@thewinningdiff1
"We are such an instant gratification era. We are trying to skip the step of adversity and growth and you're never going to be able to skip that in life. You're always going to have to face it." @CoachDrinkwitz Greatness isn't achieved without adversity, but because of it.

"My bad isn’t accepted here.
We have a commitment to excellence.
You need to do what you are supposed to do - instead of looking like you’re doing what you’re supposed to do."
