@Anto_m____ Firstly, INEOS lost Watson like Visma lost Tulett, and Watson's better for TTTs. But next to that, Onley and Tulett are also of very different importance for team. Onley is a GC rider so INEOS have to wait, Tulett can be dropped without waiting.

@nikolai_pott @BenjiNaesen 75% of their WT wins are from Jonas; outside of him Brennan is underperforming, they lost Yates and Kooij, and their signings this year have been weak

@samiitooo @BenjiNaesen Wait. 2026 is the problem? According to the races I saw in 2026, they've won KBK, Paris-Nice (+ 2 stages), Volta Ciclista a Catalunia (+ 2 stages), Paris-Roubaix, Tro-Bro Léon, Antwerp Port Epic, Fleche du Sud (+ 1 stage) and the Giro (+ 6 stages). Where's the problem in 2026?

I genuinely think there's no behind-the-scenes drama surrounding the Grischa Niermann departure at Visma-Lease a Bike. Sometimes people just move on to the next step in their lives, and it sounds like that's what's happening here. I worked with him in preparation of the Tour de France 2022, and Grischa was a pleasure to strategise with. He's someone who always valued honest input and isn't afraid to stand behind people who give it. I appreciate that on a personal level. I'm quite skeptical when I see a team, in this case Lidl-Trek, massively shake-up their management like this, but I'm certain Grischa won't be the reason if it goes wrong. 🤷‍♂️

@BenjiNaesen yeah I felt the same way; you'd hope internally they didn't feel the same

@samiitooo Yeah, but I never believed Visma-LAB could win the Tour de France 2025, so I guess them losing it was just an expectation for me. 🙈

@BenjiNaesen and it makes me worry even more for them going forward given the need for a new sponsor and Plugge's comments about needing so much more money to be competitive! I could see them slipping further to no longer be the second most dominant team if that's not sorted

@BenjiNaesen Zeeman leaving end of 2024 is still relevant but I'm not going to go back to a whole podcast episode to listen sorry! Re victories last season was obviously good with 2 GTs but they missed their big goal + 0 monuments! We agree that 2026 is the problem...

@AntifaTheologe @BenjiNaesen WT wins is a good indicator; Visma themselves have said they want to be top of UCI ranking. Teams choose their own schedule so it's not like UAE are doing something special; any team could send their best riders to farm .1s! Also UAE still #1 in wins this season despite injuries

@samiitooo @BenjiNaesen Counterpoint 2025 they won two of the three GT Wins is not a great indicator in my opinion. UAE has one of the biggest expanded race schedule, so they can easily farm more wins. And that was just working cause there were not many injuries/2026 has shown the limitations

@RandrupRt @jack_govier @BenjiNaesen Sure, I agree that Roubaix is bigger than most races. Jonas still contributes a disproportionately high number of WT wins to the team when compared to UAE/Ineos/Decathlon

@BenjiNaesen On Visma, I'd wager that the departure of Zeeman in 24 caused quite the change in the team! It's definitely concerning that Plugge was surprised by Niermann too. Re. performance, 2025 was the furthest Visma have been from UAE after being ahead in wins in 24

Lidl-Trek has been throwing money at the wall hoping it sticks ever since Lidl became a co-sponsor, and has now replaced their team manager and multiple high-level management roles. Internally, multiple riders are looking for the exit. Visma-Lease a Bike has replaced staff members who left with limited culture changes, and continued performance.

The three way tie at the top of Velogames Italy Women 2026 continues after the Stage 2 update, with ONLY HERE FOR THE LAUGHS, GOONERS and BLACKFLAT all continuing in the lead with their similar sprint-focused teams of seven scoring-riders so far.

A flat ITT is not great for Jonas, of course. But you also wouldn't expect him to lose serious time to Arensman and Gee. He also gave everything, you can't say he arrived fresh at the finish. The only explanation is that he's not at his best level, doing the minimum necessary to win this Giro and hoping he will improve in July. #GirodItalia

@faustocoppi60 This long, flat ITT was only about pure power, not power to weight. If Jonas pushes 380-400 at threshold, he cannot expect to win against those who push more, Ganna being the notable example, even with a great aero position

I don't know what to make of Jonas's time trial. On the one hand, it went well for him - he made up time on most of his rivals, but on the other hand, he lost a lot to, for example, Gee and (especially) Arensman. He lost to O'Connor. For me that's really not good.

@BenjiNaesen Jonas' performance was shocking; he should never be that close to Storer on a flat TT. He's also never lost a TT to BOC before.

Congratulations to Filippo Ganna for avoiding mandatory retirement by winning this time trial. 👏 Relatively weak time trial by Jonas Vingegaard, but it won't change the fact that he'll walk this #GirodItalia. Afonso Eulalio stays in the Maglia Rosa (for now). 🎉
