The CWI advocates for class-first politics and this is recognized in the article as a positive. The picture of choice is my mistake; I didn't know this was from the CWI.
Dean@Dean_y_

@LaciCloud If you recognise that the CWI promotes class-first politics why use a photograph of the CWI-SP in England and Wales to criticise identity politics adjacent Trotskyist currents stemming from the Cliffite, Mandelite etc., traditions?

@omgkringeh @Dean_y_ @LaciCloud okay - so CWI entryists into NIPSA were out protesting against attacks on foreigners by loyalists..... yet the CWI were up the arse of loyalists for years, supported their sectarian parading through Catholic areas, etc. Just make it make sense.

@omgkringeh @seanpcsmyth @LaciCloud A public sector General strike in January 2024, significant growth of NIPSA membership, trade union self-stewarding of the anti racist demonstrations after the Southport murders in the summer of 2024 too (with the Belfast demo having a 10k turnout, organised largely by NIPSA)

@EireGalloglaigh @Dean_y_ @LaciCloud I think the Provos were masters at that from the 1980s onwards. A lot of the "pop-republicanism" of today is downstream of that. And that might be the cohort who carries a border poll to success.

@seanpcsmyth @Dean_y_ @LaciCloud I don't need to defend Militant or CWI. I'm not one of them. My own argument is that Trotskyism itself could learn a great deal from Gramsci and Mao, in terms of cultural hegemony and Mass Line to build this mass movement.

@EireGalloglaigh @Dean_y_ @LaciCloud All this is just waffle. If there was a mass movement to be built, then why didn't Militant, CWI, or whoever build it? The Trotskyite theology is great and all - what does it mean on the ground? None of this meant anything at the time. The armed struggle -was- the struggle.

@Dean_y_ @EireGalloglaigh @LaciCloud If you've a problem with Sinn Féin go to 44 Parnell Sq in Dublin and let them know. If you're a problem with the power sharing arrangements - you must have forgotten that your own organisation supports that, and the GFA. I opposed both. The armed struggle was legitimate. Sin é.

@seanpcsmyth @EireGalloglaigh @LaciCloud Is there a United Ireland? All the dead babies and civilians and what for? Sinn Fein to have a power sharing agreement with unionist parties so they can BOTH ATTACK THE WORKING CLASS? A class first approach means we could see this problem back then, proven by events today.

@EireGalloglaigh @seanpcsmyth @LaciCloud The figures who went there include a comrade of mine locally, who was a Liverpool councillor. Harry Smith. He said they quickly went to get a ferry to avoid being kneecapped and as they got on the ferry a British special branch officer said “evening Mr Smith.”

@EireGalloglaigh @Dean_y_ @LaciCloud What "individual terror"? You're importing what people said about the Narodiks in Russia, in a totally different context, to describe the IRA, who were a highly organised and disciplined force. No use quoting theory as theology here.

@Dean_y_ @seanpcsmyth @LaciCloud That's the right framework and I don't disagree with it. My critique of the IRA was never about moralising myself - substitutionism is the problem. Individual terror as a replacement for mass working class action.

@EireGalloglaigh @seanpcsmyth @LaciCloud Similarly leading figures of Militant, including Peter Taaffe, went and debated with the provo’s in the midst of the struggle on the best way forward for Irish unity. We disagreed with the tactics of individual terrorism, favouring mass working class non-sectarian action.

@seanpcsmyth @LaciCloud You can put things in brackets all you like. In every organisation there are competing tendencies, such is the dialectics of nature This isn’t a defence of the UVF, just as saying working class soldiers in the British army are not lost forever isn’t a defence of the British army

@Dean_y_ @LaciCloud Is that what I said? Perhaps you should invest in a pair of spectacles. I said your organisation worked with the "left-wing" of the UVF.

@seanpcsmyth @LaciCloud Perhaps the decision to organise amongst the unionist working class, which you imply is tailing the PUP, helped to organise cross-community solidarity which is then expressed through industrial struggle.

@seanpcsmyth @LaciCloud From the Falls road to the shankhill workers of both communities United to fight again their joint capitalist employers. That is proletarian internationalism. All you have to offer is lies, calumny, slander and misrepresentations.

@Dean_y_ @LaciCloud Your Irish branch referred to them as "workers in uniform" for years - that is a fact. They associated with the "left-wing" of the UVF, i.e. Hutchinson. Most recently they're trying to organise for a foreign, i.e. Corbyn's, party in Ireland. Some political legacy.

"fesli Hollandalı" dememin sebebi:

G@gzemcelik

@seanpcsmyth Benim üniversitemde tüm okula zorunlu olan 2 tarih dersi (ilki 1700’lerden 1922’ye, ikinci 1922’den bugüne yakın tarih) tamamen Zürcher kitaplarına dayanıyordu, o yüzden kafamda hep iyi diye kodlamışım. Fesli Hollandalı demeniz çok merak uyandırdı. Sebebini paylaşabilir misiniz?

Bernard Lewis'in The Emergence of Modern Turkey kitabı 60 yıl önce basılmış. Hala aşılmamış. Fesli Hollandalının kitabı yanına bile yaklaşmaz. Lewis'e sövmek 40 yıllık moda. O süre zarfında Lewis'i aşan bir tane şarkiyatçı çıkmadı. Batı akademisinden çıkmaz da.

Bernard Lewis’in tüm sakatlık ve skandallarına rağmen Türkçede ısrarla tekrar tekrar basılıp okunuyor olması acayip bir durum. Ana akımdan epey önce çıkması gerekirdi.
