🚨 Have not posted on here in awhile! Logging on to share some exciting personal news: I’m joining @FortuneMagazine soon as tech correspondent. I’ll still be based in the SF area, keeping a close eye on the industry's biggest players and most defining trends. Naturally, a major focus of my coverage will continue to be artificial intelligence and the massive infrastructure behind it. If you work at Amazon, Microsoft or any of the leading companies driving this space, I'd love to chat. You can reach me securely on Signal at seb.39. (I'll share my Fortune email address once it's up and running). I’m deeply grateful for my seven years at The Wall Street Journal, where I was fortunate to write about Amazon, Microsoft, AI, cloud computing and other topics. I’m thankful to all of my wonderful former colleagues there, as well as the many sources that helped shape my stories. You can follow me here, as well as LinkedIn and Bluesky @sebasaherrera.bsky.social. Let’s keep the conversation going at Fortune!

Microsoft had a message on Tuesday for the doubters: We're still at the center of AI. How so? CEO Satya Nadella announced a sweep of products and partnerships to showcase Microsoft’s widespread portfolio—from new AI models to agentic devices to upgraded chips. Nadella brought Peter Steinberger, the founder of OpenClaw, on stage to announce that the trendy personal AI assistant will be integrated into Windows. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang also appeared to discuss the recently announced Nvidia PC “superchip” that will pair with Windows. After taking an early lead in the AI race by forging a close alliance with OpenAI, Microsoft is now playing catch-up. My dispatch from Microsoft Build 2026: fortune.com/2026/06/02/mic…

Just now at Microsoft's Build conference in SF, Satya Nadella referenced Microsoft's upcomming super app, which will combine chat, coding, Cowork and "autopilots." On Friday, we broke the story about the super app: fortune.com/2026/05/29/mic…

Microsoft is working on a one-stop shop that would connect its GitHub Copilot coding assistant, Copilot chat function, Copilot Cowork tool and a new agentic workflow capability internally named Autopilot into a single app. bit.ly/4dzXpJe

My first @FortuneMagazine story is a scoop about Microsoft's plans to build a super app. Sources tell me Microsoft is working on a one-stop shop that would connect its GitHub Copilot coding assistant, Copilot chat function, Copilot Cowork tool and a new agentic workflow capability internally named Autopilot into a single app. The project is being spearheaded by Jacob Andreou, Microsoft’s recently appointed head of Copilot. The company plans to launch the super app by the end of summer.

It's my first day as tech correspondent at Fortune! I'm excited to get started, and I'm particularly keen to keep tabs on the big tech companies. I've had lots of experience covering Amazon and Microsoft and am eager to connect and stay in touch with any employees from those companies, as well as the other Mag 7 companies (Apple, Meta, etc.). If you want to get in touch, I'm on Signal at Seb.39 (use a non-company device). My Fortune email is sebastian.herrera@fortune.com.

My last story at The Wall Street Journal was a front-page feature about will.i.am's second act. We all know will.i.am because of Black Eyed Peas' smash hits like "I Gotta Feeling." But did you know he's also a well-respected tech investor, inventor and guru? He once served as Intel's director of creative innovation, regularly speaks at tech conferences and gives advice to luminaries like Marc Benioff. In April, I sat down with will.i.am for a couple of hours at his Hollywood studio, where he talked to me about the AI agents class he taught this spring at Arizona State University, how he thinks AI will become highly personalized and how a visit to MIT's Media Lab many years ago sparked his professional interest in tech. A part of the interview I will never forget: He rapped the Peas' "Where Is the Love?" in front of me as a reference to his class. wsj.com/tech/ai/your-n…
