@nencki @MaryemeOuafoudi I feel like half the replies and retweets don’t get this. Tells you a lot about that half of replies and retweets though.

We are happy to announce our next workshop: Making scientific illustrations for papers with AI tools! You will learn how to use simple prompts to reduce the time you need to spend on preparing visuals for your papers. And focus on what is REALLY important - science itself!

@o_guest It does get brownie points for remembering that Luxembourgish is also a language for once, but the correct word is “Schnéi” (schéi means pretty 😉)

@ZachWeiner You must keep stats on what sites SMBC visits come from - I’m wondering what that looks like recently wrt twitter vs bsky vs mastodon

@rogerkmoore Also, people running chatGPT on <insert favourite robot here> are a dime a dozen. I don’t see much of value down that road but even if there is some, this certainly isn’t it.

Perfect eg of misaligned affordances, fake persona and misleading presentation. Integrating random off-the-shelf speech components and ChatGPT onto an arbitrary robot is a recipe for a chimera. We need a holistic approach to designing communicative agents. inverse.com/tech/chatgpt-b…

@mjdramstead or, you know, we can leave them to their shenanigans and relocate to the blue place 😉 though part of me feels like driving people away is what all these changes are actually about - I just can’t figure out why.

We've released annotated slides for a talk titled "Evaluating LLMs is a minefield". Current ways of evaluating chatbots/LLMs don't work well, especially for questions about societal impact. There are no quick fixes. More research is needed. w/ @sayashk 🧵cs.princeton.edu/~arvindn/talks…

@LucaAmb I would argue that, for talking science, the Blue place is quickly becoming the place to be. Plus it doesn't need you to filter out promoted content and endless crypto ads.

In spite of some horrendous takes from the owner, this is still a great place to meet and talk about science It's very valuable, and we should defend it. He is just a voice among many.

Very happy to be part of this once again. Awesome school in an awesome location!
Alessandra Sciutti@alefreedot

The #HRI Summer School just started, with a focus on the role #robots have in transforming #human - human #interaction. Lots of interesting people, discussions and robots in a special scenery in an abandoned quarry in Poland!

@TonyBelpaeme The interesting question is why someone who evidently doesn’t know anything about actual robotics was even reviewing the proposal.

Just got a review in for a funding proposal, found this gem: "There is no comparison [of our robot] with full humanoid robots as Sophia". These press events showcasing circus robots are a disservice to R&D!

Hear hear! Research into AI-powered social robots is still in its infancy, so presenting these bots as functional autonomous beings instead of as heavily puppeteered props is problematic. I expect better from @AIforGood, and it detracts from the good work they do.
Celeste Kidd@celestekidd

The @UN needs to understand is these are not "AI-enabled humanoid robots" in any meaningful sense of these words. The creators are snake-oil salesmen, puppeteers. They deceptively present animatronics as capable of independent thought to benefit their brands & egos. It's wrong.

I consider it a personal triumph that we are back in the Horizon programme! I bravely overcame all the obstacles that we created ourselves, to finally secure exactly what we had before, but with no say or input into how it’s run.
