Health equity means ensuring every Black mother in Texas has the support for a safe pregnancy and birth. The dramatic disparities in maternal mortality across the state highlight the urgent need for action. #BMHW24 #HealthNotJustHealthCare #HealthEquity

Report: Preventable differences in health outcomes – closely linked to income, zip code & race – are driving up health care costs & reducing work productivity across Texas, and the state’s economy is taking $7 billion in annual losses because of it. episcopalhealth.org/enews/report-t…

Passing groundbreaking legislation is just the first step in improving #HealthNotJustHealthCare in Texas. The next step: shaping the successful implementation of important policy changes. That's why @DrAnnBarnes_EHF joined @StDavidsFDN, @TexasHHSC, the Texas Association of Promotores & Community Health Workers, plus many others in Austin to discuss ways to implement HB 1575 -- a "monumental step" to address the state's maternal health crisis. It's a new day for new moms in Texas. Half of all births across the state are covered by Medicaid. Starting today, Texas moms will no longer lose their #Medicaid health insurance coverage 60 days after giving birth. Now, both mom and child will be covered by Medicaid and CHIP for a full year post-partum. HB12 was passed by the Texas Legislature in 2023 and goes into effect today (March 1). This important policy change gratefully expands primary care access and supports healthy moms in Texas. Today, EHF's @shaochee_sim and many other staff are in #Austin getting an update on the rollout of #HB12 and other maternal health policy advances at the latest meeting of the Texas MCO NMDOH Learning Collaborative. Led by EHF, the collaborative is where state agencies, Medicaid health insurance providers (MCOs), philanthropic organizations, and more come together to discuss best ways to help address the non-medical drivers of health (#NMDOH) faced by Texas Medicaid beneficiaries. THIS is improving #HealthNotJustHealthCare in Texas. #healthequity #philanthropy #SDOH
