@matt_ecton96 Idk man some of these have truly awful first, second, or third movies... maybe the other two are good enough to lift them tho! And maybe there just aren't enough trilogies worth talking about out there.

In preparation for #DunePart3 to complete maybe the greatest film trilogy of all time, I made my top 15 trilogies. What’s on yours?

And I love them both for different reasons. After leaving Denis’ Dune Part 2, I said that “Dune is what Star Wars thinks it is.” But Star Wars hit at just the right time in just the right way. It is unique enough to stand on its own. If the argument is that Dune deserves some credit for Star Wars’ cultural impact, then yeah you probably have a point! But if it’s that Dune deserves all the credit that Star Wars gets, well that’s like saying an athlete can’t be considered iconic in his own right because he copied some moves from a player that came before him. Or that Phil Jackson can’t be credited with the Triangle offense even though he mastered and popularized it.

Ok but one is in the story because it’s an inconsequential planet and the other is central to the intergalactic economics and politics. The fact you’d have to explain the inspiration is a sign that the product of inspiration had a greater “cultural impact” than the original.

“dune will never have the cultural impact of star wars” I’m gonna hold your hand while I explain to you why Tatooine looks like that.

@Matthew_Gaskin Think it’s despicable and blasphemous, but his beliefs about who Jesus is are obviously way out of line with mine and the rest of the Christian half of Judeo-Christian. So not super surprising.
