Spudnik-1, an orbiting potato on @Space_Station! I flew potatoes on Expedition 72 for my space garden, an activity I did in my off-duty time. This is an early purple potato, complete with spot of hook Velcro to anchor it in my improvised grow light terrarium. Potatoes are one of the most efficient plants based on edible nutrition to total plant mass (including roots). Recognized by Andy Weir in his book/movie "The Martian," potatoes will have a place in future exploration of space. So I thought it good to get started now!

Digital ID requirements do two things: block your access to lawful speech and create massive security risks that lead to data breaches. Age verification laws undermine safety for everyone, especially kids.

🚨 Another supply chain attack: Attackers used compromised npm publisher access to deploy a backdoor across 29 packages, with worm-like propagation via stolen tokens and payload delivery through an ICP canister. Details: socket.dev/blog/canisterw… #NodeJS

Crazy that instagram/facebook are more permissive platforms than X now. It used to be the contrary. Now even bikini are flagged as adult. Sad but creators will probably have to leave twitter soon.

A man who dies by suicide at age 28 doesn't live long enough to develop arthritis. Anyway, it's important to recognise what groups like the WEF and UN do. They continually portray men and women as combatants in a zero-sum game for health attention. This is why they continually ignore the sex difference in life expectancy and focus instead on quality of life and years of life in disability. In their minds, it's a battle of the sexes. So, they go with the data that favours attention to females. This is childish. There is no reason why sex differences in life expectancy cannot be acknowledged at the same time as sex differences in years in poor health/disability, etc. All of it is important, but to them, only half of it is important.

#Women spend 25% more of their lives in poor health or with disabilities than men. The women’s #health gap means the global #economy is missing out on $1 trillion annually – and likely more: weforum.org/stories/2026/0…

One in fifty. Then one in five. And almost nobody noticed. In 1990, 2% of women without a college degree said they had no close friends. Today that number is 19%. We've spent years framing loneliness as a men's crisis. And the data @RichardVReeves has been sharing shows men are struggling. But women without degrees are right behind them, and their trajectory has been steepening for three decades. The bigger surprise? The gap between college-educated and non-college-educated adults is roughly double the gap between men and women. Which makes me wonder if this was ever really a gender story, or a story about the places that used to bring people together slowly disappearing.

Mono-culture farming devastates the rest of nature. Farmlands continue to lose much of their wildlife, bees, birds, insects, amphibians. But each generation measures "normal" nature against what existed in their childhood; not what existed before. So we don't mourn the Auroch, Quagga, Eastern Elk, or drained wetland. We never knew them. We each inherit a slightly emptier world & call it normal, a shifting baseline syndrome. Humans are remarkably adaptive... dangerously so.

Malleable software is dead. Long live malleable-ish software. This captures a recurring thought of mine: The most powerful tools choose the malleability/rigidity boundary exceptionally well. A beautiful balance of possibility and constraint. Exactly what humans and agents need.

My mentor from BigTech is poly. She has a husband and a boyfriend. They all lived together at their house in Mountain View until moving to SF with their kids a few years ago. I get their holiday cards every year. I think of them every time a wave of poly hate hits the timeline.

Why would devtools startups ever want to outsource design and development to someone like Evil Martians? Don't they prefer to do everything in-house? The answer is on the surface Startups need value right here, right now. It takes time to hire excellent design and enginereing talent. They also want to buy expertise that you don't necessarily have in-house I wrote up a short post about our approach to working with startups: evilmartians.com/chronicles/why…

People don't program AIs. They program the machine that grows the AI. AI behavior is an emergent consequence of complex internal machinery that literally nobody understands.
