not only this but people keep confusing canon with fanon. yes the fics about shane going to boston/the raiders being supportive are incredible but it's CANON that ilya neve made real friends there, and that no one from that team even went to his wedding

I get the distinct feeling that this romanticization of boston has more to do with villainizing shane for "making him move" (he didn't) and less with how ilya feels about it coz we literally see him form actual bonds with the ottawa team in a way we never did with boston

a lot of what gets left out when talking about shane in the early years of the hollanov situationship is his comphet and how he views ilya as just a bump in the road til he finds a Wife (like all of the other hockey players he knows because that’s just what you do)

i think this is SO important and something that people new to the romance genre struggle to understand. as much as hockey realism is very much a thing in these books - the romance of it all does (and always will) supersede that. it’s a romance book first and foremost.
