Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has not appeared publicly or spoken live on television. Instead, his message was read on Iranian state TV.
There have previously been unconfirmed speculations that he was wounded or possibly killed in an Israeli/US airstrike.
A statement on his behalf said:
- Iran intends to continue pressuring its opponents, including using the closure of the Strait of Hormuz as leverage.
- “Iran will avenge the blood of the martyrs who died in the conflict with the U.S. and Israel.”
- “We will obtain compensation from the enemy; if it resists, we will seize property of equivalent value, and if that proves impossible, we will destroy property of the same value.”
- “We are committed to friendship with our neighbors and are targeting only military bases, but we will be forced to continue.”

Not including this weekend’s impending opening gap higher, our models show US CPI inflation rising to 3.2% if current oil prices are sustained. A move to $110/barrel opens for 3.5% CPI, and $130/barrel opens for 3.9%. The Fed’s worst nightmare seems to be coming to fruition.

Oil markets reopen in 4 hours: Meanwhile, we’ve seen widespread escalation in the Middle East this weekend. Oil depots and water desalination plants are being targeted in strikes on both sides. Hours ago, Iraq confirmed that 3 MILLION barrels of oil production per day are offline. This is already larger than the feared Russian supply loss in early 2022, which sent oil prices toward $130/barrel. And, the Russian oil disruption fears in 2022 were never even realized. To top it off, Qatar is now expecting oil prices to rise to $150/barrel. Something must change, this has become completely unsustainable. Expect a very busy week ahead.
