I’m outraged at antizionists repeating the racist and ignorant colonizer libel. I’m finishing a PhD in anthropology and have spent years researching indigeneity, settler-colonialism, and genocide. My dissertation examines Jewish indigeneity and peoplehood, grounded in long-term research with Indigenous communities in the Amazon. From that perspective, the idea that Jews are “white settlers” in their own ancestral homeland is not a serious scholarly claim. It is a bigoted libel that collapses complex histories of peoplehood, exile, and return into a crude ideological script.

As with every other presidential election of our lifetimes, we were given two unacceptable options. As a pragmatist you took a gamble on one of them. As an idealist I declined to make that choice (believing they would both lead to disaster). We don’t know with certainty what a Harris presidency would have done but with Dick Cheney on her team, I’m pretty confident she’d be escalating against Iran too. Regardless of the shitty choices we made (my not voting was a shitty choice too!) we are all in the same boat now. Finger pointing will get us nowhere.

You’ve never said this before.” Around midnight he put pillows around himself and sat with his brother. He said: “Brother, let’s play. I’m Iran and you’re America. Let’s play with guns and tanks.” They started playing together. He said: “See, Iran won? Brother, Iran won. I was Iran and I won.” My son said Iran was the winner. All these things seemed to be inspired to him that night. He did all of this the night before his martyrdom. He also prayed and read the Quran that night. In the morning he said: “Mom, take a picture of me.” This child was an angel. He used to say: “My name is Mikaeel. Mikaeel means God’s angel. If anyone has a wish, tell me so I can fulfill it.” God loved him too and took him to Himself. It is true, exactly like that. It was the heartless America that launched a missile at this school where there was nothing suspicious. I myself lived in Minab for four years. They just wanted to kill our children.

US forces killed Mazen Dana in front of me and other journalists. The sound of the shots is still vivid. After his body was removed, a colleague put Mazen’s blood-spattered camera in our car to take to Reuters. Mazen had a wife and 4 children. Can confirm it was “not a great” day
