@GBarnesMD @bsamuelson_md @acweyand Here is a website we developed for patients on how to take oral iron, and how to take oral tranexamic acid. The website improved per clinic adherence to these oral meds. hemequity.com/takecontrolper… For screening re heavy menstrual bleeding: letstalkperiod.ca - it’s amazing!

The patient as content: Some advice for doctors (and other health care workers) who share stories about patients on social media, by @stephglancylee healthydebate.ca/2021/10/topic/… via @HealthyDebate @UofTDoMChair #SoMe #bioethics

"Physicians should be honest with themselves and ask: Does this post serve my interests more than my patient’s? Can the professional objective of my post be achieved through more confidential pathways?" Thoughtful piece by @stephglancylee via @FralickMike healthydebate.ca/2021/10/topic/…
English

@AngelaMCheung Agree, stories certainly more memorable for me than data. I think there can be some circumstances where it’s ok to share (w/consent, of course) so long as pt’s goals are front and centre-not the dr’s-and occurs after acute illness resolved/improved-not right it the middle of it.
English

Great piece! @stephglancylee That's how I feel about pt stories told by HCP on Twitter. Pt stories are very powerful but ... it's a very fine line. Whereas discussion of aggregate data from publications etc may just be as educational but may not be as powerful, or as relatable.

Physicians and other HCP (but mainly physicians) on Twitter should read this carefully

@FralickMike @stephglancylee @roundstable @HealthyDebate @ADetsky @sagar_rohailla @md_frost @ChanaSacks @sholzberg Fantastic article. Truly informed consent for this is difficult to achieve I think. One of the privileges of being an MD is the trust patients place in us to hold their stories as sacrosanct.
There is a way to provide case-based educational value, but it is rarely done well.

Lots of good advice in this article by @stephglancylee.
As @Doc_Olie says, our patients stories are still their own.

@FralickMike @stephglancylee @roundstable @HealthyDebate @ADetsky @sagar_rohailla @ChanaSacks @sholzberg Great piece-congrats @stephglancylee. I think many factors at play- newfound quasi-celebrity status, perceived pressure to produce content, misguided sense that good is being done, and surges of dopamine from the ❤️ that we are all prone to
