Progressive Republican. Anti-antifa (not fascist, trust me). Narcissistic empath. Conscientist. Augur(thought-complete). Chaotic good. Constantly disappointed.

📰 FM Sergey #Lavrov's new article «Ukraine, Europe & Global Security». EU leaders should recognize that the model of regional security built in Europe over decades has been destroyed by their own hands. ❌ Trust cannot be restored through ultimatums. t.me/MFARussia/30583

.@gcaw: "Normally one would have to pay a lot of money to a discreet professional to be humiliated this badly. Watching Trump and his aides sell the deal is in some ways as humiliating as the deal itself." Read the whole thing: theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/06/…

At some point you have to stop and ask if flattening the cities of the willing martyrs is really going to help, even if they're begging you to do it. The degree to which Netanyahu is just trying to stay out of jail is non-zero.

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte said Wednesday that the alliance is meeting its military needs, despite a decline in U.S. support. The Pentagon has recently said it would not commit the same level of air and naval assistance to NATO allies in a time of crisis. That's part of a broader U.S.-stated shift towards potential threats from China and elsewhere. Before Thursday's meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels, Rutte said that member nations are filling the gaps left by Washington. He said that, historically, NATO "was overly reliant on the United States. Now the U.S. has adjusted its pledged contributions, and other allies have stepped up to contribute more." America's commitment to the 32-member bloc has become another source of tension with Europe. President Donald Trump surprised allies last month, announcing plans to send 5,000 more troops to Poland, even as he calls to reduce the U.S. military presence elsewhere in Europe. Allied leaders will next meet in July at the NATO summit in Turkey.

@NewsHour It's really hard to get people back into productive manual labor after they get used to offices even if the AI is better at office work. The average American thinks the economy is doing well when the value of their house goes up faster than their mortgage.

A third of Americans approve of the way President Donald Trump is handling the economy, according to the latest PBS News/NPR/Marist poll, a new low on an issue long considered to be one of his strengths with voters. Sixty percent of Americans overall disapprove of Trump's economic approach. The 33% who approve mark the lowest since Marist began asking the question in 2019. High — but dropping — gas prices may be behind some of that disapproval. Seventy-eight percent of Americans said gas prices had some effect on their household budgets. The data shows Americans are connecting affordability challenges, such as the high price of gas and rising food costs, with Trump's presidency, said Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion. For some, "it's Donald Trump, and that's where the slippage comes in. He can't get away with high prices at the pump and at the supermarket and not get tarnished by that," Miringoff said.
