First, let me address the Patreon situation. Content uploaded to my Patreon is not the finished product. Text overlays, censors, and other sound effects are added afterward before YouTube release. Patreon is specifically where supporters flag errors so they can be corrected, which I explicitly stated in the Patreon post itself. A big part of why I do this is because I want & encourage my Patrons to watch the video and point out if I missed or need to fix something. Now let me show you an example of what NOT to do: the version being criticized here was obtained by someone blatantly recording paid content and redistributing it without transformation. This is something Aine and others have openly admitted to in their own replies (ss below). That isn't fair use and is 100% content theft. On the artwork: every VTuber commentary video showcases its subject's visuals. BeemorningVT was a Vtweeter with an OC but no L2D model, so we used a mix of artworks and photos he posted publicly on his own profile as placeholders. This falls under fair use for commentary. I've credited artists in the past as a gesture of good faith, but I'm in no way obligated to. This is a common misconception and perhaps because of my previous kindness, it is now being weaponized against me. (But you don't have to take my word for it. If you're uncertain, just ask a lawyer!) Now, the "defamation" allegations. The segment in question covers community backlash against people associated with BeemorningVT who initially refused to share a news article about his arrest, citing concerns about doxing. It is not the focus of the video but a small segment. I clarified that sharing a news article about someone facing five felony charges is not doxing. Every word I attributed to them came directly from their own public statements. If they take issue with how those statements look when read back, that's a problem with the statements, not with the coverage. Accurately quoting someone is not defamation. What's also being left out: I defended them. I noted that public statements are often peer-reviewed before release, that the criticism they received was disproportionate, and that the conversation had shifted away from a serious crime into a debate about doxing. As for the interview claim: no commentator is obligated to interview every person whose public posts they cover. By that logic, I should be interviewing Bee from jail since the video is about HIM. The standard is accuracy and good faith, both of which I met. Every news article published on this case, plus the trial logs, was used during research or quoted in the video. The only update I didn't include was that Bee requested to attend his trial virtually, which was inconsequential to the content. On the “name-dropping”: You are making it sound like I am doxing somebody. Are we seriously upset because I read out a twitter username? Now, why is Aine posting this when they weren’t even in the video? Because MilukoMoon, who I presume is their friend, briefly joined my Patreon to watch the video, then left a comment saying they were upset about a pronoun error, as they are genderfluid. I apologized and offered to fix it. I try my best and I might use wrong pronouns at times. It happens and if someone asks me to correct it’s also not a problem. I think it’s fair and I'm happy to accommodate people when I can. But do NOT demand that to shake me down or accuse me of doing it on purpose. Talk to me like a human being and I will respond and work with you but let me be clear: just because I’m being courteous and agree to re-record that part does in no way mean that I owe you anything, that you get to hold that over my head or use it to extort me. I did it because that’s how I want to operate. In fact it was only after I agreed to this correction that they revealed their real objection: their friends were mildly criticized in the video and they didn't want it published on YouTube. What makes it super hard to take this at face value is that Miluko voted for this topic to be covered a month ago when I polled it. They knew the video would be monetized. They were fine with all of that, until the framing wasn't what they wanted. At that point, the position shifted from "don't publish this" to "give us a cut of the profits." I’m sorry but those two positions cannot coexist in good faith. (ss below) I understand there's always going to be pushback from people featured in my videos. No one enjoys being criticized, even mild criticism, and it's easy to farm engagement from people who already dislike me. I get it. But let’s be honest about what’s happening here: this video covers a person who was in this community and is now facing five felony charges related to child s*xual abuse material against m*nors. That is the subject. Every attempt to redirect this conversation: toward art credits, a pronoun error I already offered to fix, or whether I owe a payout to people who voted for the topic, is, at best, a distraction. At worst, it's an effort to make covering this kind of story more trouble than it's worth so that no one does it. You can keep threatening to copy strike me. Keep coordinating backlash with your friends. I won’t be guilt-tripped out of reporting on it.
