Trump’s demand for Australians’ biometric (facial/voice/finger print/morphology) recognition data is currently being processed by our Commonwealth Government. This MUST NOT HAPPEN. Our Five Eyes security alliance already has a data base/risk assessment of any persons of interest.
Eliza O'Brien@eliza_brien

And should be stopped. That data belongs to each of us individually and should be protected like in Denmark.

Appalling. A 10% increase in homelessness under Labor. We are a wealthy country and we can fix this. Meanwhile, kids growing up in cars. abc.net.au/news/2026-04-2…

@c_s_wallace Yes, but it's partly ordained by decisions media companies make about whether to push their own audiences: through the mastheads or the company news site. Look at news.com.au and nine.com.au

Devastated to hear that David Malouf has passed away. God, I was talking and writing about his work just yesterday. I last spoke to him on the phone a few months back —I was meant to mail him some things, but then my son's cancer diagnosis derailed my life and I forgot about it. 9 years ago, when he still lived in Sydney, he heard me read at Sappho's Poetry Night. I was so new it to then, and I performed some early poems from what would become The Lost Arabs. He made a point of telling me then how much he enjoyed my reading. We met several months later, and had a coffee at Broadway. He agreed to read my new manuscript, and when he had, he told me he read it three times. He had nothing but praise for it, and ended up providing an endorsement for the book. He was unfailingly generous with his time and on more than one occasion, happily nominated me for major fellowships. We read together in Newcastle - that's where I took this photo - which was a true highlight for me, and whenever we crossed paths at festivalshe'd make time for me, we'd sit and eat and argue about identity politics. Call yourself what you want, David, I said - you still look like my jido. He was the first Arab Australian author in this country and his legacy is enormous. Vale, habibi. I'm sorry I didn't send the letter. I'II miss you.

Long term follow up of a phase 1 trial of an mRNA tumor vaccine shows that 7/8 patients with pancreatic cancer, who mounted an immune response to the vaccine, are still alive 6 years later. This is breathtaking data and shows the promise of mRNA vaccines. nbcnews.com/health/cancer/…

The number of adults being diagnosed with ADHD has risen six-fold since 2017, and it has increased by almost a third in the last year alone. This is largely because of the rise of ADHD-specific telehealth clinics providing quick diagnoses, sometimes based on online questionnaires alone. Where those clinics are also dispensing medication, there are obvious concerns regarding clinical decision-making and commercial incentives. We need better regulation of telehealth services—it's an under-regulated part of our health system. Image: @abcnews
