🌍 The Stolen Identity: Why the World is Wrong About Ukraine, Rus, and Slavs
Looking at what the world thinks it knows about Ukraine and Russia, I am honestly shocked. Most people have a completely distorted perception of our countries and of Slavic identity in general.
The Succession of States on Ukrainian Soil
Ukraine is not a "new" state that appeared out of nowhere. This land has a deep structural history:
📜 The Scythian State: Great ancient nomadic powers.
⚔️ Kyivan Rus: The medieval superpower of Eastern Europe.
🐎 The Zaporizhian Host / Hetmanate: The Cossack republic and early democratic formations.
🇺🇦 The Ukrainian People's Republic (UNR): The independent state declared in 1917.
🏢 Modern Ukraine: The successor to this long lineage of freedom.
It is a normal practice for countries to evolve and change names over centuries. Russia did this too. It started as Muscovy, then became the Tsardom of Muscovy, then the Russian Empire, then the USSR, and finally the Russian Federation.
The Great Theft of History
It is crucial to understand that when Rus flourished, "Russia" did not exist. Not only was there no such state, but there were no significant settlements on the territory of modern Russia at that time. Rus was centered exclusively on the territory of modern Ukraine. Much later, after Muscovy launched its wars of conquest, it stole the name "Rus" from Ukraine and began to falsify history to claim a lineage it never had.
Slavic Identity vs. The Imperial Melting Pot
Ukrainians are Slavs, like most of Eastern Europe. Russia, however, is not a Slavic nation in the ethnic sense; it is a mixture of Finno-Ugric tribes, Turkic peoples, Mordvins, Mongols, and various Asian ethnicities. Ukraine has its own culture that descends directly from the times of Rus. In contrast, "Muscovite" culture is far more similar to that of the Mongols and the Golden Horde.
While Russia contains some Slavic regions today, it conquered them relatively recently. Ethnically, these lands belonged to Ukraine and Belarus. In 1991, Russia failed to return occupied regions that were historically part of Rus and the Ukrainian People's Republic—lands where the Ukrainian language was always spoken. Can we call the entire Russian Empire "Slavic" or "descendants of Rus" just because they currently occupy a few Slavic territories?
The "Slave" Myth and Pop Culture Lies
The world often forms its opinion of Slavs based on Russians. This results in:
🎭 Asian-coded Slavs in Cinema: Movies depict Slavs with Mongoloid features, which is historically inaccurate for the people of Rus.
📖 The "Slave" Etymology Myth: Westerners often claim the word "Slav" comes from the English word slave. In reality, in the Ukrainian language, Slavs are Slovyany. We have the words Slovo (word) and Slava (glory). It is far more likely that our name comes from "people of the word" or "people of glory" than from a late integration of an English term into our ancient tongue.
The world judges Rus by looking at modern Russia. In films about the medieval era, instead of the authentic European culture of Rus, we see Mongol aesthetics. Moreover, many people put an equal sign between Rus and Russia, as if they are the same thing. This is, at the very least, bizarre—and historically illiterate.
Rus is Ukraine! The only thing Russia has in common with Ukraine is the name stolen by Peter I.
That is why Slavic peoples often refer to Russians by their real name—moscali—while the Russians themselves try to portray their own nationality as a chauvinistic slur, and victims of Russian propaganda often even ban the real name for Russians.

Pete Hegseth out here doing Olympic-level gymnastics to bring back Confederate general names on U.S. military bases.
"This is about restoring history and Army morale!" bro says, while twisting himself into knots to pretend it's not about Robert E. Lee & Co. who literally took up arms against America for slavery.
Hegseth defending renaming military bases after Confederate traitors: “We’re not erasing history!” Yeah, you’re just doing backflips to rebrand Robert E. Lee as “some other guy with the same name.”
Fort Liberty to Fort Bragg 2.0: Now with extra copium for morale.
Treason cosplay in the Pentagon.
Embarrassing.

Trump’s post is not the language of a statesman.
It is the language of a frightened bully whose threats are no longer producing obedience.
That is why Iran matters in this moment:
it has pushed the United States to the point where its president no longer projects authority —
only vulgarity, panic, and the collapsing psychology of a man who thought screaming was the same thing as command.

@BernieSanders To have posted something so vile as this on Easter Sunday...or any day is the lowest I think he's gone. Unfit as president and as a human being. This is language of a war criminal.

On Easter morning, this is what President Trump posted.
Everyone in his administration that claims to be a Christian needs to fall on their knees and beg forgiveness from God and stop worshipping the President and intervene in Trump’s madness.
I know all of you and him and he has gone insane, and all of you are complicit.
I’m not defending Iran but let’s be honest about all of this.
The Strait is closed because the US and Israel started the unprovoked war against Iran based on the same nuclear lies they’ve been telling for decades, that any moment Iran would develop a nuclear weapon.
You know who has nuclear weapons?
Israel.
They are more than capable of defending themselves without the US having to fight their wars, kill innocent people and children, and pay for it.
Trump threatening to bomb power plants and bridges hurts the Iranian people, the very people Trump claimed he was freeing.
On Easter, of all days, we as Christians should be reminded that the son of God died and rose from the grave so that we can be forgiven once and for all of our sins. Jesus commanded us to love one another and forgive one another. Even our enemies.
Our President is not a Christian and his words and actions should not be supported by Christians.
Christians in the administration should be pursuing peace. Urging the President to make peace.
Not escalating war that is hurting people.
This NOT what we promised the American people when they overwhelmingly voted in 2024, I know, I was there more than most.
This is not making America great again, this is evil.

@BernieSanders I don't ever again want to hear any trucking fool ship about the ridiculousness of my political model of government, known colloquially as, "The Office of The Ship Faced Dock Master for The Permeable Imaginary Borders of Social Media!"
