Declaration of the Revolutionary Government Girón is today and forever! As long as there is a woman or a man willing to give their life for the Revolution, we shall prevail! Cuba is living under a permanent siege by the United States government, whose escalation of threats has intensified in recent months. Added to the brutal energy blockade, which aggravates the genocidal policy of the embargo of the last six decades, are the statements from representatives of the U.S. government elite regarding intentions of military aggression. The material and human cost of this blockade constitutes a shame carried on the shoulders of the government of the greatest empire of all time. It is an illegal and inhuman act, in violation of international law, which is condemned every year by almost all member countries of the United Nations and which, as recent polls have confirmed, is rejected by the majority of the sons and daughters of Lincoln's homeland. In the face of this collective punishment, the Cuban people offer the most noble and admirable examples of resistance. Since the "asphyxiation" was decreed in the form of an Executive Order this past January 29th, the response of these people—who continue to face the challenges of shortages in every daily task or activity—has been even more stoic. Amid such urgencies, a series of unsubstantiated claims is being put forward to discredit Cuba and its government. From the prevailing media machinery, an unfair war is waged against us, filled with exaggerations, lies, and disqualifications, which never points to the true cause of the situation and blames the Revolutionary Government for a crisis that is calculatedly and coldly provoked by those who attack us. They resort to pretexts as mendacious as claiming that our country constitutes an unusual and extraordinary threat to U.S. national security or designating us as a State that supposedly sponsors terrorism. Thus, the hypocrisy of the executioner is revealed, whose intentions were described in the Memorandum of Assistant Secretary of State Lester Mallory, as early in the revolutionary process as April 6, 1960, when he expressed in very clear terms the true sense of his criminal policy: ...promptly make use of all possible means to weaken the economic life of Cuba. (...) a line of action which, while as adroit and inconspicuous as possible, makes the greatest inroads in denying money and supplies to Cuba, to decrease monetary and real wages, to bring about hunger, desperation and overthrow of government. Heirs to a historical legacy, with Mambí and rebel blood in our veins, honoring the example and courage of the heroes and martyrs of the Homeland; like the 32 brave Cuban combatants fallen in Venezuela and the young people who frustrated the terrorist infiltration through Villa Clara, we affirm today that Cuba will never be a trophy, nor one more star in the American constellation. We are a nation with a great history and convictions to defend; of peaceful, solidary men and women; a people who every day, through their work, perform a Vindication of Cuba; and who, as on the sands of Playa Girón 65 years ago, under the cry of Homeland or Death!, will achieve victory in defense of sovereignty and socialism.
