Many Android users are upset about the new sideloading changes. I want to share a couple of ideas that could be a win for everyone, and I hope the Google Android team considers this.
𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐚 𝟏: 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐔𝐬𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞 (𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞)
During phone setup, add an option:
“Enable Advanced User Mode”
But don’t make it just one button. Show a small guide:
-Explain clearly what is risk
-Tell what APK and third-party apps mean
-Ask user to confirm more than once
After this → no 24-hour waiting time.
User gets full access from the start.
Normal users → keep default safe mode with all protections.
𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐚 𝟐: 𝐌𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝟐𝟒-𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭 (𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞)
Instead of applying the 24-hour delay on every device, apply it only once to the user’s Google account.
Make it part of Google Account security settings:
- Add a dedicated option: “Allow third-party app installs (APK / external stores) on devices using this account”
-Do the 24-hour verification one time
-After that, no need to repeat on every new device
-Just log in → full access
This will help developers, reviewers, and advanced users who use many devices.
Right now, all users are treated the same. This is the problem.
People who understand what they are doing should not be blocked again and again.
At the same time, normal users can stay safe.
This way, both safety and freedom can exist together.
