So, one of the most difficult things to do when owning a platen press (I own a C&P Pilot) is leveling it. After 2 failed attempts, I finally got it right with a little help from ChatGPT. Somewhere between cast iron and code, it finally clicked.

@titanas It does come leveled! But I had to restore mine (it was very rusty), which meant recalibrating the platen and adjusting the bolts to get even pressure across the form. There are many debates about touching/not touching the bolts to recalibrate it, but in my case I had no choice.

@thaliaeche This press looks so heavy and sturdy I thought it came leveled “from the factory”, unless you mean the actual machine not some of its parts. Genuinely curious.
