I’ll admit that when Pauline Hanson insisted on a monoculture in Australia, I wasn’t convinced.
My initial reaction was that multiculturalism isn’t the problem - the erosion of a shared national culture is.
Politically, I thought monoculture was the wrong word to describe a real and growing problem many of us feel.
But I was wrong.
Monoculture isn’t the opposite of multiculturalism.
Ethnic diversity and a shared national culture aren’t mutually exclusive.
Secularism, liberal democracy and equality before the law are themselves products of Western culture.
People can maintain distinct ethnic and religious identities whilst participating in a broader Australian culture.
That doesn’t mean everyone is the same - it just means there’s a dominant common culture that binds us together.
The difference comes down to assimilation.
Most Australians, including migrants, expect newcomers to make an effort to assimilate.
Learn the language, get to know the locals and try to participate in their traditions.
Those expectations don’t undermine multiculturalism - they’re essential to its success.
Those who find offence in this really haven’t thought it through - or worse, they’re using a unifying concept to push division.

Yes, it is. In The Equalizer, Robert McCall had a code. He killed bad guys, but he didn't kill cops, only bashed them, and didn't kill a whole family just because the son raped a girl, or because the daughter posted about the girl deserving to be raped. Kill the son? Probably justified. Killing everyone else? Hardly. Sanders had no code. McCall did. A man with no code turns into the thing he despises, only in a different way.

Uwe Boll's Citizen Vigilante, starring Armie Hammer, was effectively banned in Germany, UK and Ireland and went viral after @elonmusk shared it on X. It's fiction. Here's what actually happens in it:
• A businessman turns vigilante, hunting violent criminals and the judges who keep setting them free
• He lectures offenders on how their crimes cost everyone, then hands out the punishment the courts won't
• He visits victims in hospital and tells them the legal system will only fail them
• He catches men spiking women's drinks in a club and turns their own drugs back on them
• He drugs and kills a judge he blames for putting rapists and killers back on the streets
• He storms the home of a family acquitted of raping a 14-year-old girl
That's it. A movie. Fiction.
So why did a government move to ban it and bury it. If the courts locked up the guilty, and victims weren't left with nothing, no one would be cheering for a man who does the job the state won't. The panic says more than the film ever could.

I agree money is dirty however, so is the milk, bread, fruit & veg you buy, the pen you use in the doctor's surgery, some dentists don't put a head cover on the headrest anymore, escalator handles, etc. I go to a delicatessen to buy my smoked meat & cheese & see the server talking over my raw food. Lifts, public transport, everything you touch is full of filth. Just sanitizing money or getting rid of cash because of germs is preposterous.
