Montreal shooter identified as Seth Hatfield, linked to "incel" subculture
Canadian police have named the suspect in Monday’s deadly shooting in Montreal’s Côte-des-Neiges neighbourhood as Seth Hatfield, a man from Alberta with ties to the misogynistic "incel" (involuntary celibate) movement.
The attack left three people dead: a civilian, 34-year-old Montreal police officer Mohamed Lamine Benredouane, and the suspect himself. One additional officer was seriously injured but is in stable condition, and another civilian was lightly injured.
Authorities recovered a 104-page manifesto distributed by Hatfield before the shooting, which called for a violent revolution against modern capitalist society and specifically targeted police, women, pornography, and Jewish people.
Civilian victim in Montreal shooting identified as Michael (Michel) Moshe Mizrahi, a highly respected member of the local Jewish community. Mizrahi earned his living selling suits and was an active member of Montreal’s Hebrew-speaking Chabad-Lubavitch community.
Police confirmed Hatfield acted alone. Quebec’s domestic security minister described the incident as a "domestic case" unrelated to other recent shootings.
