Many researchers point to Friday, April 3, AD 33 as the day Jesus was crucified. This conclusion comes from carefully combining: - The Gospel accounts (Jesus died on the “day of Preparation,” a Friday, during Passover season) - The Jewish calendar and the date of Passover (Nisan 14/15) - Astronomical data showing when a Friday coincided with Passover in the early 30s AD - Historical context from the reign of Pontius Pilate and the timeline of Jesus’ ministry Some studies even note a possible lunar eclipse on that date, which may connect to the biblical description of darkness covering the land and “the moon turning to blood.” Around 3:00 PM that afternoon, Jesus cried out, “It is finished,” bowed His head, and gave up His spirit, the moment the world was redeemed. Today is Good Friday. We remember the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. After being arrested the night before, Jesus was beaten, flogged, crowned with thorns and sentenced to death by Pontius Pilate. He carried His cross through Jerusalem and was nailed to it. Darkness covered the land from noon to 3pm. At 3pm He said: “It is finished.” And He died. (John 19:30) He was taken down from the cross and buried in a tomb before sundown. A large stone was rolled across the entrance and guards were posted outside in fear that His disciples might steal the body and claim He had risen from the dead. No greater love has ever been shown.
