No one tells you that parenting is just relearning the world through someone who thinks worms are friends & birds are miracles. It’s the most healing thing I’ve ever done. My daughter looked out the window this morning & said, everything is green & growing. I told her, you too. And something inside me whispered, so are you. Now I’m watching her hold flowers up to the sun while the light bends like it recognizes her. It’s funny, every spring I think I’m teaching my child about the world & every spring she proves she’s the one teaching me how to see it.

Social media is making me hate myself a little too convincingly and I’m starting to wonder if being this open online was a mistake. Vulnerability is expensive and I’m poor.

Most people are not good people doing their best. Most people are frightened people doing what is comfortable. Those are not the same thing. And pretending they are is how we excuse so much ordinary cruelty.

@themaddierune My son is hyper OCD about weather...my ex messaged me about how he stole her phone when she took a nap and went thru all of her FB contacts and warned them about thunderstorms and tornadoes...so, he would conjure her for her phone, &me for making him a peanut butter/butter lol

I could literally die & my kids would pull out a ouija board like: mommy, can you come through real quick, hello, mom, help me! 
me: yes, baby? 
my kids: can you make us a snack?

@themaddierune Just read your substack post. Those kids are in awe of you- the farthest cry from your story. I know they will be gone from begging for your snacks far too soon. Soak it up. I know that lady will be at the group today, she has a guest speaker.

Self care culture is keeping more people sick than it is healing them. Bubble baths & therapy are not a substitute for community, for purpose, for being genuinely known. We sold people a solo solution to a collective problem & called it wellness.

What’s a good pattern to spot for someone just getting into spotting patterns

Here is what I know about the human condition: we are all just children in adult bodies trying to finally get what we needed back then from people who are/were also just children in adult bodies trying to do the same thing. Have mercy…on them, on yourself, on all of us just trying to find our way back to something that felt like home.

Watching your child experience something that broke you when you were their age & being able to respond the way nobody responded to you…that is the closet thing to time travel I have ever known.

Do you ever just wake up and feel like you’ve been accidentally faking having talent your entire life or is that just a fun little morning activity for me?

I’m never sick…but I have this weird virus that feels like I’m legitimately swallowing glass. I may be crazy but it feels artificial. I can’t explain it. It just feels off.

I told my daughter I was sorry for being the laziest mom today (this razor blade throat virus is no joke) and she said: nothing you do could ever make me unlove you. I like taking care of you. Ma’am…why are you more emotionally stable than me at age 5? I love being a mom so much it’s embarrassing.
