LLMs are bad but the worst kind of artists are the ones who perform "process." Daniel Day Lewis disappearing to vacation resorts in Bora Bora or the Amalfi Coast and calling it "method." No novel takes years to write. Time is a marketing tool. It's a way to cultivate mystique.

some conservatives do read (plenty of books are more conservatively bent & plenty of bookstores are religious) but if you are interested in reading you are already more open to learning new ideas, gaining understanding, and basic empathetic thought than the standard conservative

Because of that you have fallen for some of it yourself. Anything that paints morality in broad strokes is probably propaganda

At that point that person would need to discuss that privately with the professor, not expect the whole class to avoid the topic

I'm in a college English class rn and while we discussed a play we read, a first year, 18 or 19, spoke and kept referring to an essay in the play. there was no essay in the play. I was confused. the professor was confused. turns out she was saying SA. it gets to a point...

@turntineforwhat while language obviously adapts and grows, it is concerning that so many people are comfortable self-censoring. Like best case scenario is what happened with you, worse case is people just stop talking about hard topics because the words get progressively sillier

When I was a senior they tested out the "everyone has a device" on my AP lit class, & we all got ipads. My math teacher put the math textbook on it and that was incredible because I didn't have to lug my textbook around anymore. Every other teacher didn't do anything with it

the issue with everyone has a device is that the have never utilized the devices in a way that would actually be helpful, and instead it offered just a distraction to actual learning.

see I think of "be gentle with yourself" to be more like...don't beat yourself up if you mess up the small things. Would you give grace to others if they messed up? Then give yourself that same grace and move on. I agree we should push ourselves tho!
