not sure I’ve read much else that captures the sensory moment-to-moment feeling of being a teenager so well. And there are sentences in here I am so jealous of it almost makes me angry (complimentary). Some of the descriptions of Thornmere will now permanently live in my brain

to what makes the relationships at its heart tick. There are scenes in particular with the narrator and his mother where their love and its failure to bridge distance between them are excruciatingly palpable, the dialogue so well-sketched you almost cringe to be listening in

knew i would be but am utterly enthralled by seán hewitt’s open, heaven. the way it captures the all consuming highs and lows of adolescence & first love without seeming to exaggerate or demean them, the landscapes picked out with painterly attention, the shrewd attention

we will be locking in in april. entering the month serenely unencumbered by march’s nonsense. making moves in (relative) silence. in my lane etc. speaking this into being bc i need to get my life and inbox together before I go on vacation in may. or else.

going to be reading horrible takes like five years from now thinking to myself "no time for dat ser lyonel." replying to every five paragraph essay complaining about the costumes on hotd with EggFrowning.jpeg

@therealcshea the opening half of the first book, especially the Winterfell section, is the only time you have so many POV characters stacked in one place. I think it might catch more for you once they've split off! Winterfell is like the prelude

ok don’t kill me. given everything about me i thought i’d inhale GOT when I started the books but. i’m a few chapters in and…not quite hooked? is this a case of needing to power through the set up? big sections feel very stage direction-y to me. i want in these weirdos’ heads!!

@vermont_morgan yes, thrones & chapter eight! Robert & co are in winterfell, Jon has met Tyrion, Joff is a dick & Arya hates needlepoint.

I don’t even think it’s a case of not liking his prose which can cause me to bounce off some popularly adapted stuff bc I LIKE the prose so far. and it’s not a case of not liking a slow build. I famously love a book where nothing happens. i just want more interiority?

@tidaltowns i’m sorry it’s been bad. I’m here if you need to vent to someone/just chat and be distracted. i know this may not help in the moment but getting stuck in that dark place is not reflective of your value as a person. I know you would tell me so & have when I’ve struggled. ❤️

hey all, i want to start by saying that i’m safe now, but that things got dangerously dark for me really quickly over the past few days. maybe it was longer and i missed some warning signs, i don’t know. anyways i’m still not doing what i would call well
